Basically I'll be straight up with you guys here on the forum as have I been in my gumtree advert. Its a great little vehicle, I love it. But basically I've moved interstate, and rendered it un-registerable with my lift kit in NSW or even Queensland for that matter unless someone spends a little time on it. I haven't got any time, busy on a house extension.
It's got a 50mm lift kit installed, and to get a NSW Blueslip, or Queensland safety certificate the assessor is going to want as a minimum the following works complete:
1) Replaced my bodged steering extension with a proper spacer. The kit I used was a bit short so I stuck a heap of Washers in and obviously that's not good practice.
2) The rubber between body and gear lever gate tore during the lift, and evidently that blocks fumes into the cabin, so it's a failure and will likely need to be replaced
3) The front brake discs are too thin when measured, so it'll need a pair to pass
If the NSW/Queensland safety certificate assessor is feeling like it, he might argue that engineering is required to retain the 50mm lift, depends on his personal opinion. The Queensland assessor didn't care, the NSW assessor was a bit vague, leaning towards requiring engineering, but I think he could be swayed either way if I hadn't have bodged the steering extension... I didn't get off on the right foot with him. He said for a yearly safety check he'd pass the lift kit no problems (assuming I sorted the steering extension and rubber gear gate), but for a Blue slip they have to dig a bit deeper.
The gearchange is also notchy as anything in Reverse, first and Second. But to be honest it tows my boat up a boat ramp no trouble, so I suggest if you can't master the gear changes you should probably go get an automatic.
Nice reliable old Vitara, needs a bit of work. I suggest you take the lift kit off permanently to get it registered and then get it back on again after getting it rego'd, getting the steering extension block made up and repairing the rubber gear gate.
