I've swapped out the NT diffs in my LWB zook SJ40T for some WT diffs and also swapped motor and gearbox. Now I'm looking for either:

a) a LWB rear tailshaft out of a LWB 1.3 zook; or
b) a tailshaft out of anything else that is a similar length that I can get shortened and use for my zook (ie, swap yokes etc).

So who's got what and what do you want for it? I'm in Brisbane.

The LWB shafts are pretty rare... Your best bet is to get a WT rear shaft and take it to a shafting mob and have it lengthened.

I was hoping I wouldn't hear that - every wrecker has told me the same thing. I was thinking of just swapping the yokes off a standard sized tailshaft (which I have) and shortening a longer tailshaft. I've been told that lengthening is a no-no and difficult to true.

Technically you don't lengthen the shaft... You turn out the yokes at each end and fit them to a longer piece of tube.. Is definately not a "no no" and is easily balanced by a professional shafting shop.
Mine cost $200 with two new uni's fitted so yours should be cheaper if you have good uni's.

Too easy then. For that price, why would you even bother looking for secondhand bits? Thanks for the tip - any recommendations for a shop to do it? (I just moved here).

There are two places up here that do it...
Kunda Park tailshafts
&
Farrows shafting service at Nambour...

Can't really recommend anyone down your way though... Yellow pages should get results.

Cheers. I'm back and forth between here and Caloundra quite often, so those places might suit. Will call them tomorrow. Cheers for your help.
