Have you thought of how you will mate it to the driveline, have you considered that the clutch will not like getting 3 x the weight off the line

Its been done many times before 2stroker, so its very do-able. For popular engines like the 'busa's, you can get heavy duty clutches, etc...

A locked clutch will fix any clutch problems

Mate I didn't say it was impossible, this is this dudes 3rd post here, he is new to this site, I don't know if he is a kid with big dreams or a guy with a heap of knowledge and the ability to actually do this conversion. In my post I ask him how he intends to mate it to his driveline, bearing in mind that the engine sits east west in the bike frame, has an integrated gearbox and clutch and drive is via a chain, and I also asked him if he has considered that a motorcycle clutch may not be up to the task.
I am not bagging him, I am actually keen to hear what the dude has planned or worked out because at first thought it is a huge conversion and a huge headache for little return. R1 might have 100kw but thats at about 11500rpm, the powerband is wrong for the gearing of a car, it might have an application for a novelty drag car but on the road and in the bush it would be pointless, a 16valve efi vitara engine has half again as much torque at half the revs.
I don't know why you say "It's been done many times before" the fact is I would be surprised if you could show me one functional registered LJ in Australia with this conversion. I know you can get a heavy duty clutch for most of the big bikes but it is a wet clutch that is not designed for the weight of a car and is tiny by comparison to an LJ or Sierra clutch.
The only conversion with a bike engine I have seen is an American write up useing a Rev Tech engine which is a Korean copy of a V twin Harley, they did not use the bike clutch or gearbox because on those engines the gearbox and crank case are seperate items, they had a drive shaft from the engine to the suzuki gearbox which had the bellhousig plated off, it was ugly and not all that successful.

Have seen them done for foot-to-floor hill climbers and dune buggies...
Check insurance auction sites for a donor - stuff with mangled frames won't get much interest so you can buy the pile of metal on a pallet and just extract the motor.
Interested to see what you've got planned!

Sorry the one at work is an r6 here is the add I can get more details of you like
crashed my 2002 Yamaha R6, 4 cylinder, 600cc Road bike and now it is classed as a repairable write-off.
If you are interested in taking on this project i can email photos.
be warned that both rims are dented along with the tank. the clutch handle is snapped as with the left foot peg.
Asking $1,200 ono.
This is a worth while project, i would restore it but me and the bike have a love hate relationship after the crash.

Come on, don't put a R1 motor in it, use a suzuki motor...
Busa should do the trick

haven't thought to far ahead as yet mainly want to get a suitable bike engine then set about making it fit! i have seen a couple done using a makeshift drive shaft between the sprocket and gearbox input shaft but if i can snap gears with my 800 motor than not sure what good it would do with 100+ hp in front of it. so will probably just run a drive shaft straight from sprocket to transfer and when my finances allow will put in a reversing gearbox.
also on another not will be hunting down a fiberglass body for my lj aswell if anyone knows of someone who does a descent kit?????

No one in Australia currently makes a fibreglass suzuki body.
You can get a fibreglass CJ3 jeep body from OzEast at Noosaville to fit an LJ or sierra but that is about it.
They make fibreglass LJ bodies in Germany and fibreglass Sierra's in NZ but shipping to Aus would be expensive.

There will be plenty of smashed bikes at bike wreckers.
You could also try the vehicle auctions.

Please tell me where the magic money tree is that you hope to give seed from, to every sierra owner in australia. Otherwise, we won't be able to afford said fibreglass/wet wrapped carbon tub that you speak of.
