If you has seen my other thread, you might realise that I am in need of a stock headunit from an 03-05 (internal facelift) GV or XL7 Grand Vitara. I would need it in working order of course, and as cheap as possible please. If you know of someone parting one out, or are doing that yourself, please let me know. Cheers :)

Would this work?? I know that I already stated XL7 in the description, but I just assumed. This has a 6-stacker, so not sure if this is compatible, but I would assume that the plug would be the same - the stacker components that would make it different from the single-disc ones would all only be different on the inside?? It's a bit more than I would like to pay, but can only try. I guess I should check first

These are pictures from US eBay add, but I'm assuming AUS one would be similar/same. Does anyone know if one of these would work.

If its a standard double DIN, it should fit, however, the main problem i found with replacing the head unit in my GV, is the depth of it, there is alot of wires and shit behind it, that made replacing mine, and also putting in my new UHF, a pain in the ass, skinned knuckles and finally had to get two sets of hands, one either side, to move stuff out of the way at the back, and slowly wiggle it in... so just make sure it will fit...

I'm almost certain that will fit fine, having pulled my head unit apart and put it back together for the fun of it.

Yeah I am pretty sure that fitment will be ok, but just wondering about compatibility issues?? I know it's a long shot, but someone MAY have done this before...

I don't know why I didn't take / can't find a picture of the back of mine so I could compare the pins on the plug, but from this angle it certainly looks the same:

The only issue I can see is that the top "deck" is a fair bit deeper than the stock unit, although I'd be surprised if there was any difference in dash clearance between the XL-7 and GVs with the updated dash. Externally they are virtually identical.

Yeah I did a measurement, and there is enough space for 155mm deep at the bottom, and 205-210mm (on the conservative side) at the top. So I don't think fitment will be a problem...it's just the compatibility. I double-checked the plug on the back of mine to the US-spec one posted above and they seem to be the same...it will all come down to where the leads are located within the plug whether it would work. But I do not see a manufacturer making major changes between models that are fairly similar - especially over something as seemingly minor as the radio.....let's hope....

I tend to agree. It's probably worth the chance, if they headunit can be sourced cheap enough.
