I must have fractured the crown or drive gear in the rear last weekend cos yesterday it destroyed itself.
So I am after a rear 4.3 ratio diff centre or a new crown gear and drive gear.
I hate to think what Suzuki would want for them.

the rear is the same as the 1.3 sierra and the front is supposable the same as a 1.0 sierra. so i am told. i know the rear is because i just put a locker out of sierra in the rear of my jimny.

Jimnys are 3.9.. Auto's are supposed to be 4.1 but every auto jimny diff I have pulled is 3.9 and only come
across one 4.1. Suzuki don't have a clue, they only told me what come from where, and the info I got from them
is half correct. I have no idea what jimny come out with 4.3.

Can you give us the number of teeth on both gears?
(just count the knubs that are now there in place of the teeth if you like )

My Jim is a Manual 08. According to the soec sheet, the Auto is 4.09 and the Manual is 4.3. According to Darren at B&P it is a 4.3.
Based on this info, I'm pretty sure its a... 4.3

She has no indication of selling it off as bits so it probably won't help me, but I have posted a message anyways.

On paper? Or in reality?
I'm still yet to see one. Can you get your tooth count?

A 2003 on manual GV front is likely a 4.3 and will fit a sierra center

Peter - as I said, Darren has already done that. This is how he determined that the diff centre that Chris provided was different.

I've rung about 20 wreckers today, only 2 of which could possibly help me with a 4.3 (still in the car so have to pull out to check). Prices are $450 from one, $495 from another. I have another guy going to check what he has and get back to me and will cost $350~$400. So far thats my cheapest option. New Bevel and Pinion set from Suzuki around $850.
Would a GV diff centre likely be less expensive/more readily available?
Is that on a particular engine size or fuel type, or just any?

errr what?? That sentence is one statement. No inference that MY diff is still in the car.
The wreckers don't pull diffs out until someone makes an enquiry.

I have just been told today that even though the Ring and Pinion from a GV front diff are primarily the same as the rear of a Jimny, the ring of the GV is thicker and either it or the outer ring of the hemisphere needs to be turned down a little.
Can anyone comment on this?

Follow up - Got the R&P today and compared the 2. The GV is not as thick as the Jimny so either requires shimming between the hemisphere and the ring, or perhaps the hemisphere just needs to be biased more that way, providing there is enough space to do so. Will find out tomorrow.

Is the GV pinion gear thicker to make up for thinner crown gear.
I assume You know You need to use a matched set of pinion and crown gears, especialy when using used parts.
Lowrange sell a bearing retainer thats thicker, for people putting 5:12's into sierras...may be a similar issue..
never seen a jimny diff, so just thinking out loud.
I'd be trying to slide it over to match.

It is indeed a matched Ring and Pinion sourced from the Dark Horse's... (you know what I mean )
I will find out tomorrow what the solution was. I have confirmation that its ready for pickup.
