Hey guys,
Im a newbie here and really wanting too get into the 4x4 scene (maybe not extreme, but you know, cruise beaches and stuff) ANYWAY im in Canberra (AUSTRALIA) and theres really not too many options... I found this and wonder if its any good / worth it?
CarPoint
In summary its:
Price $3,999*
Kilometres 247 168
Colour SILVER
Transmission 5 speed Manual
Body 2 door 0 seat UTILITY
Drive Type 4X4
Engine 4 cylinder Unleaded Carburettor 1.3L (1298cc)
SO, thoughts?[b]
Also, what would be the key services that SHOULD have been done? (its a dealer, so i might be able to wangle a better price!)
Cheers guys!

Too much I think.
I would pay about $2k max for a stocker of that age, in good condition.

yeah ive thought about travelling a bit too get one... it seems all the good buys are all the way up in QLD though.
i'm not too familiar with the old sierra's in terms of value, any tips on some arguments i could use to lower the price?

you want to cruise beaches and you are in canberra
two fiddy on the clock, not a mod in sight, has the bonnet been massaged on the passenger side, if it were me - i'd go for a test drive in it just for the experience but keep looking.

... alright, so there aren't any beaches nearby... but i can dream, cant i?
well spotted, i didnt notice the scuff on the bonnet... lord knows what else is dodgy on it.
damn me and my impulse-wanting-ness... i'm that desperate, i'd probly still pay maybe 3 - 3.5k for it (providing its mechanically sound)

Trust me, you're better off waiting for the right car than jumping on the wrong one!

Its hard to tell from the pics but its possible from the damage to the bonnet that its had an impact on the front left corner.
If it were me, I'd stay away from crash damaged vehicles as you never know exactly what happened/what was damaged and how well its been fixed...
Last thing that you want is the front left wheel falling off on the freeway or something...

Also we have no idea from the ad how it is mechanically, whether the floor is eaten by rust (quite common from Sierra's I've seen, particularly if they have done beach work) etc etc...
Its hard to give a fair price on a car from a few photos...

by the dash I would say its been outside a lot, explains the paint on the bonnet
seriously, all the web wheelers on here are going to say nah its too dear, nah its got too many km's on it nah my mate got one heaps better than that for $20 jsut last week no matter what you show em
check under the plasitc covers on the sills for rust, if the engine doesnt blow smoke or tick and doesnt have any sings of leaks anywhere after a LONG drive and its all un molested looking i'd at elast see what they will do on price, cheap ones are always shitboxes that will need more money in repairs anyway, one you can just drive is always worth the extra no matter what year

considering it is at a dealers i reckon the price is about right. if it was at a dealers
in darwin they would ask for between 6 and 8k

 Yay for positive thinking! Haha.
Thanks for the tips royce I'll be sure to have a look see and really probe the dealer for the history of the car. I'll definately check it out with a cautious eye though... (cheers on the heads up with the possible crash Ben_Sierra)

And the crappier one you buy the faster youll learn how to fix em anyway and youll add your own panel and driveline damage to it over time anyway
but this is coming from teh guy whos last vehicle purchase was based on it being easy to get a lift to collect it and it having an ARB bar, didnt really look at the rest of it too much

Alright, checked it out.. Seems
Half decent! Upholstery a bit tatty and slight leak but nothing major! I'm optimistic. Im gonna try and get him down too maybe 2 - 2.5...
However, in all honesty, are zook Sierras know for reliability or is it just as likely too fall apart on me a few months down the track and
Cost big money?
Within the first month or so I'd probably be taking it too dubbo which is 4 hours away! I'd hate for it too die

They are reliable if looked after probably, but if not, then like any car, they have their problems...

If you are thinking of spending that kind of money grab bluesuzys ride, very very nice Sierra with alot of quality mods done to it.

That there is a pretty awesome ride! ... Probably too much zook for a noob like me too handle!
Anyway, in a sad turn of events, i think i'll have to give up the 4x4 zook dream, mainly cause i'll never find one locally.
I've also been offered a 2001 lancer (i know i know) but its in mint condish with some nice mods and only $6500... I guess one day i'll live the dream, but not today
