If you mean Hand Held, dont bother, even though they are full power, they really do not have much range... and $300 is just way to much They are much cheaper than that on ebay, you could get 2 in car units for $300... i got my in car unit, made for 4WD's, not on ebay, good antenna, and stainless steel Bullbar mount, for $300... If you really want a handheld, they go for under $100 on ebay, i bought 2 x 0.5watt handhelds for $30 from Repco, good for someone spotting you 4wheelin, and talking to each other car to car... |

what a load of garbage, even if it is a 5 watt hand held you'd only get 10kms if you were in the desert.... then what happens when the batteries go flat the 2nd time? |

I have one, and you can get em for $220, and theyre only good for when your guiding someone over an obstacle from outside the car. You cant here much when driving along because the car noise will drown it out. They are a well built unit, but useless if its the only uhf you carry. |

If your really sold on getting a hand held, get one with external power socket, so it can run in your zook, and, get one with an external antenna socket, or get one that you can unclip the standard stubbie antenna, as they have adapters, that clip on so you can connect another external antenna, using the standard UHF antenna plug... |

Aldi Supermarkets are currently having a sale on pair of handheld 40ch UHFs for $29.99! At that price, you could afford to buy a couple for spares. (I bought 3 pairs Each unit runs on 3xAAA batteries, and has a input to recharge the batteries (as long as you use RECHARGABLES!! Normal Duracells, Energisers or Lithium long-life types can't be recharged). Charger not included, but it looks to be the old Nokia (big) plug. Manual says they have a 10hr charge life and a range of up to 3Km. I guess they'd be handy for spotting on a track, around camp or between two vehicles close in traffic. At $15 ea, you could throw 'em away after a weekend. |

They are handy, i have a couple of Oricom ones, from Repco for $35... but i think Monkey wants something more substantial, like a full power handheld... |
