So i picked this car up for a reasonable price a week or 2 ago and was quiet happy until i realized the amount of big rust holes in it. hopefully some one can help out or i probly should have just bought one that wasn't a "fix-er-upper"

Mate I'd get a decent tub and swap it out provided the rails are all good.

X2. It will cost you far more to fix that than it will to get another tub.

Is the vehicle registered? What does it look like from 5m away? Can you just wheel the arse out of it while you look for another tub? Could be a great opportunity for some relatively consequence free wheeling! :D

Haha i wish! Nah i bought it unrego'ed so will have to get it fixed for rego. So no fun for me till i get it done. I mean its missing a wheel due to last guy that had it ran it with busted front wheel bearings, but i'm just waiting on parts. The Mech side isnt a probly but the rust stumped me haha.

Rust repairs are not to bad provided you can weld,A mig with gas is the best option

step one clean area with grinder

Step two make a paper template of the patch you need and transfer to steel then cut out.

step 3 weld in place and look for next patch

Thanks smokey. I'm pretty sure i am going to give repair a try (i don't think my budget (missus) will allow a tub and it's worth a shot lol) i started stripping it out tonight and found more rust. But the funny thing is i started getting more hope in the repair. I only have a lil gasless mig but i'm hoping it gets me by. Will just have to see

Good to hear that ,one thing that can make the job harder is the gasless mig ,it would be worth seeing if you can add gas but beware of the disposable bottles as they only do about 900mm of weld.
I purcased a D size bottle full of gas outright with no rental from speedgas for 300.00.
