Hi Guys

I have a vit 12/97 and have just blown the front diff to hell housing and centre at the same time, does anyone in VIC have a steel front diff and a centre that I can use and any advise for getting and fitting a steel diff

I got my steel front diff by using online parts locators.
Cost $460 delivered from Maroochydore Qld to Melb Vic.
Non zook wreckers are usually cheaper.
Mine came from a 1998 GV manual.

I double checked,
mine came out of a 98 GV V6 Manual.
Not sure if V6 is important.
But a search of steel front diff will find a lot of info on here.

I used axle housing and diff housing,
I sold off the GV diff ring n pinion for $150.
I fitted my 1.6 centre which is 5:12.
The GV has a diff mounted free wheeling set up,
and is much better to use a Vitara centre.

I think the GV was a 4;3 ring n pinion, so depends on what diff gearing you have.

It is the V6 GV you need, and manual apparently.

Yep, its a V6 manual that you need. I went to buy a frucked V6 today just for the front diff but it was an auto so had an alloy front diff. A V6 auto between 03-04 will apparently have the steel front diff, and 05 onwards won't fit. If you find one, can you see if the give a discount for 2 :lol: cause im still chasing one!

p.s its looking like im going to buy a stat write off car just for the diff, its looking easier then finding one at a wreakers!

Hi, diff carrier is the 3rd member.

I’ve included a pic to clear things up. I need both the diff housing and diff carrier. As the auto and manuals run different ratios I don’t need the centre(mine being auto). I believe the steel housing only came in the manual Grand Vitara and autos after 2003.
