Hi I'm up in toolangi trying to get my car started (engine has just been put back in the car) its a diesel engine and its got me stuff why it won't go she's puffing out lots of smoke but won't kick over. Please help me if you can

put a couple of drop of petrol in the air intact behind the air filter. That worked with my diesel hilux when the bastard wouldn't start. Either that or start ya barstard is good stuff

Firstly how's the timing? Also is the battery really strong, diesels are high compression and need a good kick to get them going.

Lots of (white) smoke means uncombusted diesel fuel.
Try using the glow plugs even if you have to run a jumper cable straight to the glow plug rail for ten seconds or so.

What engine is it?

How cold is it? Glow plugs probably aren't working. If you're going to use 'start-ya-bastard' or similar go sparingly. Sometimes if you glow it a few times before you start it may help. And as suggested make sure the battery is good

Toolangi needs Alpine Deisel this time of year, in my opinion.
Have no idea if it is available, but there is an additive you can get.
Thats the full extent of my deisel knowledge

Loosen off the injector lines at the injectors and see if you are getting a strong squirt when cranking.
If you are getting white smoke when cranking its most likely your timing is out.
If your glowplugs aren't working you could maybe try a hot air gun blowing straight into the intake.
You could try a little combustible aerosol to assist but try not to use any at all, it precombusts which isn't the best for your engine.

hey thanks guys. yeh i have tripple checked the timing shes puffing out lots of black smoke its being burnt but for some reason its not picking up revs and wanting to start. i bleed the injector pump three times now and checked all the lines to make sure that the lines are full of fuel not air. everytime i go to start it i make sure that the glow plug light goes out. the engine is a 300 tdi

Glow it 2-3 times before trying to crank. How cold is it there? Have you put a test light on the glow plugs to see if they're getting power?

if it was alittle bit colder it would wanna snow hahah but inside the shed its not quite as cold as outside. nah i havent checked for power to glow plugs but if they wernt working the fuel wouldnt be getting burnt anywhere near the amount that it is

Still sounds like cold or frozen fuel.
Theres a heap of info online for additives and cures.
I just googled Alpine Deisel.

Toolangi can go sub zero easily this time of year, and is moderately high up, though not Alpine

That black smoke coming out the exhaust is UNburnt fuel. It won't start if the glow plugs aren't working, the air is just too cold. Try a heat gun or hair dryer down the intake but your best bet is to make sure the glow plugs are working
