Hello all this is my first post and i'm new to the forum so let me know if i'm posting in the wrong area.
After deciding its time to get a new vehicle more appropriate for work (i'm a plumber) and looking into a Hilux initially and thing seeing the ridiculous asking prices for one I have done a bit of research and talked to a few friends that are more knowledgeable 4x4's then myself I have decided my money would be better spent on doing up a Sierra or maybe getting one already done up. I need something that can carry a few tool boxes in the back and hopefully squeeze a dirt bike onto the tray + still have a bit of fun up the beach & hunting trips out to Warwick while still being reasonably cheap to run + easy to work on and was wondering if the Stockman with the LWB / Holden Drover would fit this description?

I have been checking carsales.com.au and tradingpost.com.au + this forum for the last few weeks now I know that there was never Heaps of these in aus but im having alot of trouble finding any and so far have only seen this:

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/deta ... 10&sdmvc=1

which is in perfect condition but 1300km away and really asking for pretty much my full budget straight off the bat and I would rather have a bit of money left to do it up if possible.

dose anyone have suggestions for other places to be keeping a eye on?

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Firstly,

The pictured vehicle is a Maruti. AFAIK, the last actual stockman was in the LJ series made some 20 years prior.

Secondly, the maruti comes stock with a 1L engine and 4sp box. Not exactly ideal for a work vehicle. I know this because my brother-in-law used the exact same vehicle as a plumbers truck for almost 2years. The 1L died shortly after the daily abuse started.

Image

It then recieved a 1.6 and auto, and was a trillion times better, but still lacked payload capacity.

He now uses a couple of suzuki APV's (new ones)

That looks like exactly what i'm chasing, Don't really need Carry capacity just need it to hold maybe 80kg of tools at most and be able to strap some pipe lengths to roof racks, I know the only zook Utes that are around are the Indian ones unless i get a drover but they are all pretty much the same other then the engine and gear box (as I understand) which will be the first things to go after bigger tires and a 2-3" lift

the ability to throw a bike in the back is not a must ( I own a trailer) but would be nice.

Not true.

Suzuki made a sierra ute (SJ40T, SJ410T, SJ51T) in both 1L and 1.3L models. The 1.3L SJ51T would be my pic (same as the re-badged drover). This will make swapping to a 1.6L engine far easier.

Hmm I stand corrected...there must be a waiting period for sending PM's for new members, if anyone gets a chance can they let 2stroker know i'm interested in details, assuming he is selling at all.
