Hi All
Need to replace my shocks, would prefer to buy all 4 in one go, any suggestions as to where to get them in WA or eBay?

Anything specced for a sierra front should be fine in an LJ80 front and rear. That said many aftermarket Sierra front shocks are actually a little to long in their compressed length.

The best way to find a well fitting shock is to flex the car up so it's on the bumpstops and measure from the centre of the shock eye to the base of the pin. Then scour catalogs for something that's poofteenth shorter than this but still has a good extended length.

The rear shocks are a little longer but it's only 15mm iirc.

I run gabriel 81340s all round but they really are to long, these are the commodore wagon rears that everyone used to run. When I flexed it up and measured I had the original leaf packs which are much thicker than what I run now (2 leafs in the front, 3 in the rear) so that spaces the shock mount down and lets you run a longer shock. They'd be fine in the rear with conventional leafs but I think they'd need a little bumpstop spacing in the front regardless.

Thanks sideways. The upper and lower mounts on the front are the same but on the rear upper mount I have a bolt (pointing upwards) with rubber bushed above an below. Also, can anyone tell me if I tighten up new tie rods onto the rubber before or after I pump grease in. Sorry a bit basic but I' learning as I go along.

They all have the pointing upper part DOH! but there is quite a difference in the shock length from front to rear, about 2.5cm

Not the same, but you could use rears on the front and possibly fronts on the rear if you've got standard springs.

Fronts are 240mm compressed and 390 extended.
Rears are 255/420

Both are otherwise identical, they have the same mounts and are valved the same.

Ok too hard basket! I have 5 leaf springs on the front and 5 on the rear, The shocks (as sideways said) are different lengths. Everywhere I go say they should be the same size shocks. Am I missing something?

I think your rear leafs are 50mm lifted and the shocks changed to suit

OK got the shocks off, I can compress and extend them completely by hand, and they stay compressed or extended!!!
They are KYB made in Japan BF6 front and BF8 rear. They look original and don't appear to have ever been taken off. I've checked on the net for KYB they are available for Ford Fairlane and other models, but at prices starting at $250 a pair, I need an equivalent that is a lot cheaper. Question a) anybody got any ideas and b) anybody know why I have two different sizes?

They're oil shocks (no gas pressure) so they don't naturally extend. If they haven't leaked oil, aren't bent, travel their full length and still dampen properly then they're probably still good to go.

Yeah they're the stock shocks.

A) Depends what your aims are. Do you want to fit aftermarket springs and chase some big suspension travel or do you just want a stock replacement for cheaper? In any case, you really need to measure your compressed length in the way that I said in post 2.

B) Because as I said above, the stock rear shocks are slightly longer than the fronts.

My shocks have not leaked and I can still hear oil in them. They will be cleaned up, painted and put back on.
