After a comical case of almost buyimg a baleno (which was dodgy as as the seller) i can say that the importers and wreckers are pretty empty.
Had two places want to sell me the next gen engines and the two places that have them quoted as 1650 (vic) and 2600 sa) for a g16b
I did get an interesting peice of info from a big suzi place in melb (sorry forget the be right now) t.
They were adamant that contrary to opinions around here which isnthat the vitara block is atronger than the baleno block - it is the baleno blocks they found were often cracked when pulling them down and the vitaras not much.
I am thinking it is worth having a spare soon unless an engine conversion is in your future. (Ie engine conversations are not cheap but if the engines cease being readily available in the next year or two..)

There’s a good Baleno in SA up for auction. It’s auto though so you’ll need to get a wiring harness etc from a manual

Have you looked at any Suzuki GTI engines.. Thy bolt straight on without adapter plate.. Its an easier conversion than a g16b .. Still need a loom made up , and a couple of other bits to fit distributor, top hose. swap sumps and a couple of other bit but still easier.. We have done a g16b on one and we have a tight little GTI engine sitting under the house with all the bits ready to go on the other Zook..

Still looking? If you're looking at a whole Vitara, I have one. It's a little bent at the front but has all the good stuff fitted from Calmini. And and a few bits from ARB. Still think I can find the receipts from the Engine rebuild, which set me back a fair bit too. Not looking at parting it out just yet but happy to see it go as a whole at this stage.
