Hey, though i'd show you all how i made an adapter to go from the weber carby to a standard airbox so you can have a snorkel. I got the idea from these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Weber-Hat-suit-C ... 2248wt_939
Except i wasn't too keen on paying $400 for one, so i set about making one myself.
First i made up a rough one up out of cardboard
Image
Then once i had an idea what size i wanted it, i got some 2mm thick sheet metal and cut it out, i was pretty limited with tools so i cut most of it with a 5" grinder.
Image
this was the hardest bit cutting out the bit to go onto the carby, cut most out with a hole saw then filed it to the right shape.
Image
Image
Then i bent it up and made the sides for it, and the lid, nothing too hard.
Image
Then i welded it all together, and got a piece of exhuast pipe about the same size as the outlet on the airbox, got my old mine to shrink it to about 50mm using a hose crimping machine, put a 50mm hole in the side and welded the pipe in, Sealed it all with silicon. Turned out like this.
Image
Image
Then i got some ducting pipe to go from the airbox to the adapter and put it all on the zook
Image
Thought i'd put this up because i'm sure there are people wanting to run a snorkel aswell as a weber.

Good job mate always harder when you have limited tools

I was always led to beleive that webers run better when they draw the air vertically Above it rather than horozontilly how does it go with the setup?

Good job !

How do you find the Weber Carby ?
I have seen the kits on ebay, for the same price as a standard carby rebuilt, and wondered how they were, both with performance and fuel consumption... i have read here in AZ that they become problematic on the Zook when it goes on angles... but yeah, would like to hear your opinion of them !

Thanks Guys
zookster: i have heard the same thing, but i cant notice any difference driving, i think it feels a bit smoother now too.

MacBear: I cant really give you a good idea on performance and economy compared to the standard carby, because the weber was on the zook when i got it. As far as angles go i have never had a problem, but i do have an electric fuel pump which i think is the one the ways to fix the angle problems.

it looks like a big carby....

um yes they is very finiky about the equal air flow, need to hit the tops of each throat evenly. Im lead to believe that you can run the air intake from the front or rear just not the sides...

looks great, excellent work. only thing i would change is maybe do a new lid and put a right angle inlet so that the air comes down on to the throats, make it so the pipe comes through a little as well. i used to have webers years ago on datsuns and it made a difference to the performance, especially on the secondarys.

haha tight asses all the way, yeah i did think about putting the inlet on the lid, however i cant feel the difference and i rarely drive it that high in the revs to open the secondary's, but like i said i cant really notice the difference between this or the air filter on top of the carby

Ahh ok so you dont know how it was originally..... ok so, in your opinion how does it go performance wise, and how many kms can you get from a tank ?

Macbear, with the rebuilt engine 2" exhaust and weber,it goes really well. good acceleration, gets to 110 on the highway, very quick, and will sit there easy even with 31's.
The fuel economy is about 10l per 100km roughly, i dont really take to much notice as its not my daily car.
Hope this helps you out

what you really need for the weber is one of these intake adaptors......makes connecting to the stock airbox really easy but you need to have a 2in BL otherwise it wont let the bonnet shut.

ive still got it here somewhere but they cost a fortune.

i just noticed you should spin the weber around so the float bowl is at the back. it will cause bad flooding the way it is now when driving up steep hills. Its better to have it stall going down not up.

Here is the Weber conversion kit on ebay -
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT

I have seen some pic's somewhere, not sure if its in AZ, where they use those Blue Silicon flexible hoses of the top of the carby to an air cleaner box...

Thanks for the suggestions B4T, i've never really had any angle problems with the weber, either up or downhill. i think it might be because i have an electric fuel pump.
But if i have any stalling problems in the future i might have to give it a try, Thanks ;)

You can buy a adapter to suit the weber, I cant remember how much or where I got it from, but I can go though my emails and see if I still have the details if anyone is interested

Image

Edit: As everyone has said, the weber works alot better with air comming straight down into the carb, I haven't had any problems with this setup though.

electric fuel pump wont help with the steep up hill stalling as it fuel spilling out the venturi's that cause the flooding. The fix is to extend the vent breathers and let it dump into the primary throat. I had some pics somewhere but its just easier to get on Outerlimits and search for the weber thread i started years ago. its a long read but there is everything you need to know in it.
