there's no point buying a snatch strap if its much over 4000kg as the strech part of the strap is not employed, you may as well just use a tow strap as your getting the same effect.
all the data on straps suggest that the strapp should be rated 2 to 2.5 times heavier than the weight of the vehicle being recovered or recovering.
I use a 6000lbs shitter i got off fleabay its perfect for suzukis and cost $ 40.

thats still way too high of a rating....8,000kg=17,600lb! well over 2-3x a sierras GVM which is from my understanding the ideal rating for a snatch strap

18mm 8 strand nylon rope, elastic as a rubber band and strong as.

I have about 140 foot.

. When I pull (often)full sized tojos n pootrols out of the sand, down to their diffs, I flake the line on the beach, and as I see it starting to come straight, I floor it in first, the line will come up, stretch about a 3rd of its length, suziblu will feel a slowing down, and out pops the bogged piece of crap.

I have tried snatch straps, and the suk big time, I hate the feeling of near throwing myself out the front window as the strap pulls tight, and suzi does not have enuf weight to (inertia) to stretch it.

i got the straps from a mob called independent motor mart, 2 or 3 years ago.
IMM have since been bought by REPCO so they may stock them.

another vote for the 6000 kg just straps. i have one and have used it on sierras, hilux, wrangler, pathfinder with a trailer hooked up, pajerio and a range rover. most of the time its the sierra pulling the other car out. its a nice soft snatch with plenty of strech. had it for 2 years now and it looks like new still.

if your getting a big bang the strap is to big for your car. if your strap make you feel like the sierra is to light to pull it out. the strap doesn't have enought strech in it.

I use a 9 tonne ARB strap, mainly because i only usually go out with bigger vehicles, one of the guys with me has a 18 tonner which will never ever be used on mine.

I bought my TOW2GO straps from Super Cheap, not only because I worked there, but I got them for $20 each. They were discontinued to may way for the Ridge Ryder gear and they've paid themselves off.

After telling someone how much I bought them for, I was told I'm dicing with death. The straps have an Aust. approved capacity rating, Date of manufacture which was newer than his ARB strap, Umm so If I buy a $100 strap does that mean I'm smarter?

While were on the topic, what's the lifespan of a strap?
I know it depends on the amount of use it get's but do you just chuck it out when it's damaged or after X amount of years.

I bought my first new strap in 15 years today. Happened to be on special for $37 at Stupid Cheap so I grabbed one. Old one was still going strong but was too heavy so will be interesting when I get to test it.

I once used my old strap and my Sierra to free a troopy with a large trailer that was down to the chassis rails on the teewah beach cutting. It took about 9 snatches but I got him out.

how much does it weigh?

like in a previous post you only need 2.5 times the weight of your car.

so if it weights 1500kg you only need 3750kg snatchy. The most common ones these days are 9000kg, thats what i use, but i have never been so stuck that huge, repetitive snatches where required to get me unstuck.

Get one of the lowest rated ones you can find - 6000kg would be a great one

yer i usually use a 6000pound one and work well and nice and smooth. I also have a big nasty 8 or 10,000 i think it is and it's pretty rough
