Hey all
Am new to the 4x4 game have bought my self a 1988 suzuki sierra swb soft top and am looking to do a few things to it .
am looking at a suspension and body lift to accomidate 31' tyres
and a bit of protective equipment ie . sill protectors [rock sliders i think]
any advice would be much appreciated on brands pricing or just general feedback

Just Cruizin body lift for $200. Springs are a personal preference so everyone will have a different opinion. Commodore/Hilux shock combo.

Everything you need to know is already here so do some reading/searching.

Read up on Bluesuzy's setup, it is simple and really effective. It should be in a buildup thread somewhere.

Rock sliders you will probably have to build yourself, pretty easy to do with a bit of pipe and a welder.

before looking at doing any lifting wheel it first and then work out wher eu find it lacks wat u need
( putting bigger tyres and lift wont help if ur putting ur car at 45 degree angles ) just an example

Your going to love the acceleration with 31's! not..

Gearing is going to be a problem if you drive alot off road. Unsure about onroad.

Alot of people have 31's, so it shouldnt be hard to find what someone has done.

My tyres are 33's. But realsize 32 and alot wiser than most. So i have run into other problems scrubbing. Also my sus setup is not really for noobs as i did alot of playing once i got the feel on whats happening to the handling.

Shackle ramble: (not in your post but good to know)

If you've heard of people with shackles. Shackles are not an answer. Yes they will lift the car, but the stock spring or 2" with shackles setup will make it worse than stock. Unless you have longer springs, then you will be able to get better angles out of extended shackles.

I had double size shackles 1 week after i bought Suzy. Good for instant lift, but bad for everything else. I still run them, but my setup is not stock leaf sizing/mounts position..


2" lifted springs alot of people sware by Arb's - OME- Old Man Emu springs as they are softer and flex more than others etc. but more expensive..

Everyone will have their own opinions with tyres. I went the Nankang mud's cheapo way. They do fine for me.

thanks everyone for the advice am going to go and see about a full 2inch suspension lift from my local arb also some sill protectors [rock sliders i think ] and am currently looking for around about a 30 inch tyre hopefully?

Sounds like a good setup shippo. If the driving you do isn't too steep, you'll get by with stock gearing and 30's.

priced a set of 5 maxxis bighorn 30' tyres and sunraysia rims today so will be putting a deposit on them tomorrow hopefully
