Powertrax Lock Rite locker.
I'm told by many that the locker for Sierra front and Vitara front are interchangeable, yet the part numbers are different. Can anyone shed light on this for me?
Thanks
christover

dimensionally they are the same, but some vits have 26 spline, and some sierras have a 4 pinion front.

thanks joe
I best use a Sierra carrier in my diff if I want easier to get lock right.
Mine should be 22 spline, but I haven't checked

Cool thats a good saving, assuming delivery isn't dearer.
Because I don't have a Sierra centre, using that is a good option. I assume they didn't want the core back.
What did it cost you total, and how long did delivery take?
PM if you wish.
cheers

$518 US for the front and rear lockers ($209 rear, $309 front).
$110.75 US for express international shipping.
And nah they said not to worry about sending my core back
The exchange rate at the time I bought em meant I got both front and rear landed for just under $700AU. Delivery was quick, only took a few days from memory.

Hey Chris, let me know when your doing your order, perhaps we can combine shipping. I too want a front locker and am selling my road tires to pay for it (I hope)

I need to sell some stuff to pay for a locker, too.
If timing works out, group buy may help

I been playing with spare diff bits.
Found out the Vit pinion housing uses 2 locater bolts, that are too long for Sierra housing.
Just used two Sierra studs, think I should have room to fit diff under car.
I can't see any grinding needed if I use the Vitara carrier,
I'm assuming thats only needed when using a sierra carrier???
Not got a 1.3 to compare, see pix.

did you get another vitara housing or have you just pulled apart your perfectly good diff from your only running car for fun?

I scrounged up a spare, which is very cool, as now I can get everything right, before pulling out the working front diff. Though making a mount may be better with diff out of car.
I could drive the car with front diff out if needed, but will avoid that, as dont want crud getting into axle housing etc.

I need to learn to listen with my good ear, or at least with my brain switched on.
Its a bit of the steel Sierra diff that needs grinding, not the Vit alloy case
It became obvious after trying to insert assembly to measure for making a mount.
If I sell enough stuff this weekend, will wait for a locker before assembly.
If not will assemble with open alloy diff while I save.
PS Don't pull a Vitara front tailshaft out, without draining transfer case first...its not a Sierra...what a mess

After mucking round for days, not really finding any set up that I liked, and making the sierra diff too thin at the point where it hits the crossmember, I have decided to wait for a full steel diff, so I am putting back the old alloy diff and will start saving for a steely and do it properly, and add a locker at same time.
I don't feel I've wasted my time, though, as I have learnt a lot about the Vit in this process, which will make it a smoother job when I do go steel, and is a bonus knowing the car when in the bush.
I managed to lean on the angle grinder while it was still turning

They may not have showed up but that's no reason to get depressed! remember - down the road, not across the street
Spray it with WD, that fixes everything...

Yes, it gave me a scare.
Working too long in cold, damp and dark, stopped thinking for a second, thats all it takes.

Thanks Mate .. but I grinded too much off the diff, as well as my arm
Its a paper weight now.
I wasn't happy with alignment, it was hard up against the cross member.
Removing enough of the diff to have it sit true, made a hole in it
I had no intention of cutting or messing with the cross member, as its part of suspension.
I have a maybe xl7 front coming, so I will wait n see if it does eventuate.
May revisit the sierra idea if nothing happens.
Or collar and strap the alloy diff, to help stop explosion

Xl7's are different to Gv. Hence different to Vit.
