i went through a puddle that was a little deep tonight (nearly to the door handles) and now my vitara is all wet, the water got to the top of the seats. Any ideas on how to dry it all out?

pull it all apart so you can clean the floor and really air the carpet out, its the only way

check all your driveline oils too

Undo your bungs and pull out the seats and carpet. Give it a good clean out with a hose and rag

put the sprinkler inside for the night then dry it out for days then sell it and get one that won't have massive electrical problems in 6 months

EFI or carby???

If it is efi and the water was that high then there will be problems later on. I would be pulling as much out and let it dry iber a few days.. If it is efi I would also be looking at taking the computer out and drying it out with an electrical spray.. And also the connections to the computer..




Then sell it....



And always measure puddles.... As they are usually deeper them you think

seats should pull out fairly easily, 4 bolts and they come out, then pull out the carpet, hose it down with fresh water, let it all dry out for a day or two, then put it all back together. might need to get into the door panels and such as well

(this is why i bought a sierra, and got rid of my grand vitara - so much easier pulling a sierra apart to clean it)

old carby, no ECU, so im safe there. No carpet, havent put it back in from the first time i wet it, but the seats are the biggest problem i have. Hopefully i can dry them out. water was very deep, all the water came through the hole that the gear stick comes through.

if you run petrol, theres actually not much risk of "hydraulic"ing your engine... your engine will usually stall before it bends piston rods and cranks... (trust me - i've done it before) then all you have to do is pull out your spark plugs, get the water out of the cylinders, oil up the cylinders through the spark plug hole, put it back together, drain the engine oil and replace it, then start it up again.

As for your headlights, check all your fuses - theres a good possibility water got in there somewhere and blew something. If that doesn't work, get a 12v test light and trace the wiring to see where the power is / isn't getting to.

Also, i think its been said before, but check your diff, transfer case and gearbox oils just to be on the safe side.

yeah i replaced the diffs, transfer case and gearbox oils a few weeks ago and there was no water in them, i had been doing some fairly wet driving before that, some are on youtube

has anyone done a submarine conversion to their vitara? my wife thinks its a good idea...the water all came in through the gearstick hole so if i seal that up i should be right

If the water came in through the gear stick hole its a fairly good indication that there was water over the top of the box.

If you don't have breather hoses on the gearbox, trasnfer and diffs, then do an oil change now, before you destroy the lot...

yeah everything has breather hoses attached that go up high into the engine bay, i do plenty of driving through water so thats the first thing i checked. Got the seats and carpet out today, the seats still have water dripping from them, hopefully we get some sun this weekend and they dry out

My brothers old GQ patrol diffs were full of muddy water for about three months. They EVEN outlasted the engine.

Hahaha, but yeah I agree with Ben, check your oils
