hi all,
i did a search and had a bit of a read but didnt find what i was after.

i am after some OME extended struts for my 96 vitara; arb is the only place to buy them, correct? and how much should i expect to pay? i have heard some say $200 but then say upto $350ea.

once i have these struts i need new springs, i can get kings and lovells at trade price. should i get these? if not how much are ome springs? (40mm lift)

cheers for any help in advance. for those that are wondering, i will be doing this plus a 2" bl to run 30's.

just call around and ask for prices, thats what i did before i got my lift.

WA suspensions are pretty good and malaga suspensions too.

I think you will find the Dobinsons are cheaper and are still a +40mm strut, this is what I will be getting in the not too distance future. I know a few guys using them and they haven't had any troubles.

As far as springs go you could opt for standard GV/XL7 fronts and get a genuine 2" lift and a nice ride as well, that's what I'm running at the moment with a V6 and full size alloy bar.

Joe's prices are what I paid a little while back.

The GV Tough Dog stuff I have in the rear sit about 40mm higher than the 1.6 OME stuff in the front, so I'd guess that GV stuff up front would be about that much higher. Wish I'd known that at the time!

so are u saying to go get some, 40mm gv front springs from TD?? and i should get how much lift?? 40 or 80mm?

i already run 180sx + commo shocks in the rear, so i need to do the front.

Be weary of kings. my front ones only lifted my car about 15mm. i had to use spacers to even it out. although i may have been unlucky and gotten a dud pair.

ok thanks for that, could u not of taken them back under warranty? i haven't really heard much about kings. anyone else had problems with them??

Kings, like OME offer a lot of different options for springs and sometimes parts people jsut pluck the first number out

I'm keen on trying OME XL7 fronts, but too lazy to do anything about it

TD or OME, both good brands from what I've heard. 1.6 vs GV depends how high you want to go - the standard OME stuff for a 1.6 will only lift it 30-40mm higher than standard (inch and a bit)... the GV stuff will lift it about 40mm higher than that (somewhere around 3")... measure the difference between your front and rear now if you want them level.

Also be aware that because the GV stuff is designed for a heavier car (bigger motor etc) that the ride would probably be quite harsh (even the 1.6 setup is pretty rough until you load up with bar, winch etc) so bear that in mind. Adding 3" to your front suspension may also result in quite nasty CV angles, so maybe consider diff-drop brackets as well (do a search for the arguments about them!)

Please also remember that this is just from my experience with fitting half and half, so your combination may give different results.

Oh, and I misread above, my OME struts cost over $300 - the pair of struts and springs totalled over $900.

4 a total of 1125.48
plus 236 fitting charge

thanks for that, like i said b4 i dont need to worry about the rear but thanks for the prices anyway.

darkhorse- thanks for the info, i dont think i will go for the gv stuff as i just measure the difference between front and rear, rim lip to guard- is only 40mm. so with the normal springs it should make it level.

i can always add a spacer to the rear and change to the gv spring for more height later.

have heard a few people say good thing about these, so might go with these. just checking that these are an extended strut not std length??

does anybody run these, what do u think?? is the lift from the coils decent?

When i was doing my research for my GV suspension lift, going thru other 4WD forums etc, Dobinson rated pretty high, better than OME, and Dobinson have a very good replacement warranty if anything should go wrong... if i had had $500 more at the time, i may have got Dobinson at $1300 for a full kit... but for that price i got my Kit, and it fitted, for the same price... but yeah, Dobinson is good stuff !

is that saying "i will be doing a strut flip on mine" or saying "i would recommend doing the strut top flip over the struts"

are the struts ok tho? they are $95 cheaper than the dobinson, so could be an option.

I AM doing one, as I think the struts are a little short for the springs I have chosen. They are sold as a matched strut to the springs I bought but I am a little sus on them.

And no I would not do a strut top flip to negate a strut replacement. New struts all the way!!

Koni's are good! Springs are a little firm, but I'm waiting for someone to make some barwork for my vit, so that may add the necessary kgs to soften it up a little.
