The clutch in my '89 Sierra is slipping and I will have to replace it. As I have never done one before I was wondering how difficult the job is, and if there are any special tools needed or any pitfalls? I am a fitter and turner so I have a reasonable mechanical knowledge.

not hard to do but get your flywheel machined whie ya have it appart.

When you say machined, do you mean "lightened", or just cleaned up? Like getting you rotors machined?

yeh same as rotors machined they machine the face of your fly wheel removes hot spots and the alike should always do it when you get a new clutch well i always have done so makes clutchs work better and last longer

Every clutch change you should get your flywheel machined. Its not machined on a lathe, I think they do it on a horizontal surface grinder. Well thats the pattern that it gives off. (spirals)

I run a standard clutch. Have had no drama's. It is geared pretty good though. And i do give it a thrashing with a 1.6efi..

Better pedal feel than a heavy duty.

The only special tool is a clutch aligning tool, which aligns the disc into the centre of everything. But it can be done by a good eye and your finger.

when i did my clutch a couple of months ago, the front seal from the gearbox was leaking back onto the clutch and causing it to slip. Might be worth replacing it while the box is out.

if your going to buy one, get one that look's like that, not a plastic piece of shit that stupidump would normally sell, my ole work had one of them & it was the same one of them for the 15.5 yr's I was there..

If you are capable of holding still and closing an eye its not hard to align it by eye, ive never used them stupid tools that never fit anything

I agree, how ever some can't hold still or see straight..

Out of all the "universal" clutch tool's, that's the best i have used..
