I want to install a second 12v socket accessible from the cargo area in my hardtop.

Seems like a pretty basic mod, and it'd be damn handy. I'm just thinking of soldering into the current dash mounted ciggy socket and running a line off that.

Anyone in the know out there? Is it as easy as that?

nope thats a pretty crap way of doing it

get some decent twin core sheathed cable, a decent water proof use holder and run a line straight from the battery to it

What's the biggest standard single car battery I can put in a Sierra without mods? And if I upsize the battery do I need to change anything electrically to suit?

ive seen plenty of commo battery conversions, with a little fab work and some shoe horning they fit, jimbo has one i think

Well, i'm gonna run the 4x 12v Jaycar splitter box through the spare acc fuse in the fusebox. I'm guessing the ACC fuse is a spare? Main reason being when I turn the car off I don't want other things draining that I might forget about. I'm only running the stock battery for now, afterall.

I'll run the radio and UHF off the same fuse so the splitter box has a full 15A up it's sleeve. Nothing I run needs 24/7 power anyway, it can all charge while I zoom around.




BTW - these labels are pretty straight forward - but what are the rear/defg and turn/back fuses?

Rear/defg is the rear screen heating element on the back glass (if fitted) and turn/back are - well - turn signals, and backup or reverse lamps.

You know, you could simply pull the fuse and see what stops working.

Id use the a/c if you dont have aircon. Or, rear defg, if you dont have one.

What accessories are there in a bare basic Sierra? I can't think what'd be running from this circuit - every elctrical item seems nicely seperated in the fusebox.

I was thinking accessory was a spare - but i'm getting my words mixed up - it'd probably be called an auxiliary if that was the case.

I do have A/C but not a rear defroster, i'll check out that circuit and see if I have a free fuse to work with.
