I have just finished pulling the bottom load leaf from the rears of my LWB sierra. didn't want to make it too soft because its a ute and i need a bit of load carrying capacity still. (for camping and trips to the tip etc...) going for a galss house run on sunday so I will let you's know how it goes. hoping for a lot more flex, then i'll do the front end.

very easy job to do, but for anyone thinking of trying it clean up the u bolt threads as best as you can, i hit mine with a wire brush but didn't see the end of one of them was burred over, started to bind up and gave me a hell of a time. the rest were all easy as.

I just pulled another leaf out of the rear today. Now she is a dream to drive.
I have no rear seats in at the moment and rarely carry much either, so have no real need for load carrying capability. If the rear seats go back in, I'll probably put the leaves I pulled from the front into the rear, as they are a little shorter.

Can't wait to see how she goes off road.

Has anyone ever run airbags or anything to suppliment the adverse cornering disability when going really soft? Cause I'm getting the shits trying not to bloody roll my zook lol.

I had some really soft springs in the back of mine at one stage, I was having the same probs as you and was thinking of putting a 1 litre swaybar in the back. I reckon it would work.

I reckon it would be too stiff and oversteer city

I reckon if your leafs and shocks are so soft that body roll is scary you will fair shit yourself first time you are doing a steep rutted climb and bump and big rut

It's not scary bad just annoying, my other car is VN commodre built for circuit racing. So you can imagine how annoying it is going from that to the zook in the city. It's not bad enough to warrant me worrying about it now as there are other things alot further up the wish list but I was just thinking for the future.

well i didn't get to test mine off road on the weekend due to carby problems. so once i get that sorted out i'll let you know how it is. its definately softer on road though, but not too soft its still good to drive. (for a zook anyway)

ok guys, took my first step in sorting my suspension. replaced my extended shackles with std ones but left nolathane bushes. the result is a much better ride straight off. lost almost an inch in height but at least the zook handles better on road.

not yet steve. it takes me awhile to get things done but i eventually get there.

just a couple of pics of suspension flex since fitting std shackles. no leaves removed. tyres are cutting up with up travel now so might leave spring packs as they are for now.

Maybe do a little trimming or just shim the bumpstops down a little.

might look at doing bodylift in near future as well when time and money allows.

Here's my front bumpstop spacer too. Just some box section I found at the local scrap yard, couple of holes drilled through it and longer bolts.

if i hav a 2inch lift should i extend my bumstops ccoz they dont hit on full flex

put a some pics up of your spring packs and it will be easyer to help you. most of the time the load leaf is the 1st to go.

okay i will take some tomorrow on the rear sprong hanger there is like a braket thing that stops the shackle if i took it of would that help down travel or do i hav to hav it there

yep pull the bottom leaf out.

Be careful that your U-bolts still do up properly ie: threads clean and still long enough when you remove leaves as your spring will get narrower and nuts need to run further up the U-bolts.

While you have them out give them a cleanup. Royce had some tips about tuning leaf springs for better wheel travel, do a search on that.
