1. Tall, wide tyres create a lot more drag than skinny tyres. A lot more surface area making contact with the road.
2. You have no aerodynamics with a big lift plus external accessories etc.
3. Tall gearing works the engine a lot more

I run 4.16:1 gears in a sierra case using dg tuning kit in a 2004 Jimny. I only run 235 75 15, speedo is the same as factory and fuel economy is back to normal, though I only travel at 100klms never go over. 31s would be fine to run with these gears. Way better than standard and wont hurt the clutch. Engine braking down hill is awesome!!

Dont get gears for the Jimny case. Get the Sierra case its way better and you can still drive on the highway comfortably without go over 4000 rpm. And again, not having to use brakes at all going down hill.

I am still new to Auszookers. Not too sure how to post pics? I have to copy to another site or something? If you go onto the d&g tuning site the pics of them are on there. If the site comes up with some wierd writing just press refresh and the site should come good.

I got the complete kit. but looking at it when I got it, you could just build it all pretty easy. It was expensive, I think it was just over $1000. Thats sent to me too. But it really looks like you dont get much for what you pay for. Just saves you doing the work I guess..

And there is something very wrong.
Jims, and swifts all sit at around 4K at 100 from factory. It sounds like alot, but thats where they are most comfortable.

When my jimny was stock it would sit on 3200 rpm.
And my sisiter swift with a m15a sit on about 2000rpm at 100.

Its an auto. And that would have to kick down for even the slightest incline at 2000rpm
My manual M16 Swift sport would sit at 4200 in 5th at 100.

Yeah I had the same before the sierra swap. I ran 235 75 15. at the same rpm you have. Trust me the sierra swap is worth it in every way. I can run 31s and do about the same as your rpm now and still have good fuel economy.

No its non vvt 2004 so DOHC still though. So a little bit more torque than vvt but less kw and less fuel econemy apparently. I have a mate with new jimny vvt. not a whole lot different. apart from his likes to run away going down hill, not as good engine braking due to vvt giving it more air at higher rpm

Same as my old Jimny with 24% Trial Jimny gears in a Jimny case rolling 235s (oversize by 12%). 4200@100 and 5000@110.
I find the highway speed too low. A stock WT Sierra case looks like it'll be the choice for me. I would like just the Low to be lower but if that's not possible will try it as is to see how I like it. Low would equate to very roughly 6% higher than stock with 235s.
Of course it all comes down to what you want the vehicle to do well.
I want close to stock, or slightly lower, final drive ratio in High, and about 10% lower than stock in Low. For me that we be spot on.

No its the highest low gears you can get in a sierra case 4.16:1. If that makes sense. Its 20% reduction and 94% Low range. My speed may be out a bit. but I am pretty sure thats what the gps came up with.

I cant built shit dnt have the tools or the experience.... unless someone is keen to giveme a hand... or someone build a kit (mr fatzoooooook )
and yeah maybe the mounts would be easy to do it yourself, but the speedo adaptor you still got to buy it
just asking how much over the website price did you paid??... for the shipping or any tax involved here or there???
Im still planing my mod so any info is good...... atm just got a price for piranha off road (the only ones who make a sierra transfer into jim in aus), and they quote me in my local 4wd shop, close to 4000$, including the new transfer, gears, work, shaft, ect ect
