I turned them on and they stopped in the upright position. I've checked the fuse and it's okay. What else should I try?

sounds like a seized motor, just hit it with a lump of wood and she'll be right
or, pull it apart grease it and it should be good to go

Is the motor easy to get to? I'm hoping it's not a dash-out operation...

Tin top, open passenger door, look at top of dash in the corner, there is a cover that clip's on, remover cover & there it is..some swearing may need to be done under the dash tho..
Soft top, fold windscreen over. done...

I gave the soft top option to, just in case some one look's at this thread wanting to do the same, I wanted then to see I posted one useful thing..
