Just wondering are GV and XL7 struts the same? Are the XL7 struts longer than a GV Strut? and will the XL7 strut replace a GV one?


If they are the same does anyone know the part numbers for some lifted GV Struts?

I can't tell you what the physical differences are, but the part numbers are different.

The GV and XL7 both have the same struts, however, from what i understand, the XL7 has a higher capacity strut due to the XL7 being heavier, fyi, putting XL7 coils on a GV will give it a little lift and extra load capacity...

As above ^^^^ As far as I'm aware they are the same physical length and dimensions but the XL-7 ones are valved heavier due to the weight of the XL-7

yeah they are the same length just harder valving
i run them on my vit to controll all the extra weight i have up front
( steel diff bull bar winch extra batt)

^^^ No, but I have been using struts spacers for about 3 years with standard length struts and GV colis and had no problems. I thought the spacer looked a bit stronger than a screw on threaded piece?

the other type of strut spacer dont fit on a GV properly as it messes up the strut brace.

I have the ones from oda they are crap
They were just bare when I got them and they rusted into the top mount
Need to weld a big washer on the bottom to hold the boot down aswell
They would be good if some one made them proply
They need a hex milled in the side instead of cutting half the thread off
The nut can slip on the thread and it fucks them
Woulnt be hard tommake a set

I think they are a shit idea, and just unsafe.

A strut top flip would be better. Or to go that step further, a new strut top that sits at the same height as a flipped OEM unit, but still allows the fitment of the GV strut brace.....

Havent looked properly but i dont think a strut flip is possible in a GV due to the strut brace. But i could be wrong

can't see why strut top spacers like the calmini ones wont work on a GV with a strut brace, a body lift will cause the strut brace to hit the inner guards.

Yeah it can be done. But it requires some fabwork. Hence my suggestion of a bespoke unit.

Not sure why you would lift the front end that much to require this mod when longer struts are available.

Strut doesnt sit on a level pane. so spacers will sit on the angle and not line up with brace.
Prob dont make sence till you have a close look . cutting the inner guard is not a big deal would only need to remove 20mm to have it clear the strut.

How long? As with most suzukis, finding a quality strut that longer than 40mm over standard is quite hard.

ironman, Dobinson, OME and i think Ridepro make 40mm longer struts and i found a site that uses a strut from another vehicle that can be made to fit.

OK found out today that XL7 struts are suposed to be different but most strut makers only make one for both GV and XL7.

I did however discover that XL7 rear shocks are longer or are suposed to be.
