I took my GV out 4wheelin last weekend, and pushed it harder then i normally do, thankfully nothin broke, but i took it into the red on the tacho, not sure how far as i was more focused on driving, but i noticed that it sort of sounded like it was misfiring at its peak rpm... i know alot of the V6's in other cars come with a rev limiter, so just wanted to know if the GV V6 has a rev limiter as well ?

Yep. That was the rev limiter. There are a few ways to do it.
Fuel cut, rev limit, ignition cut etc. But all OEM EFI cars have a limiter.

You could fit an aftermarket ECU, Possibly get your ECU reflashed, or a few other ways. But the factory set that limit for a reason, the results of over-reving a motor are not pretty. Remember the difference in internal weight of the rotating components between a 1.3L sierra and a larger motor.
Layto....

Not my kind of fun in a GV, Sierra, yes sure...
I dont want to take it into the red again, my engines got 200,000+k on it, i want to keep the engine in good nick, and make it last, not prematurely end its life...

Yes, my throttle jammed open once in our GV and it was bouncing off the rev limiter... It's a simple spark cut, similar to nearly every other EFI car around.
Should not be miss-firing though... Perhaps your car is trying to tell you need to change plugs?

Common practise is to cut either fuel or spark and fuel in EFI vehicles to reduce the risk of a backfire and damage.

hmm yeah every rev limiter I have ever hit the ecu or what ever engine management the thing has cuts ignition spark for a split second causing misfire.
they never just get up to 7k revs and hold the revs nicely. you can hear it cutting in and out. hence the nin nin nin nin nin sound
rev limiter is also a little way in the red

Well... after toping out my GV out on the rev limiter, i have noticed a surprising side effect... it feels alot more responsive on the go peddle, even at low rpm's now, not sure why... maybe someone knows, and or, can explain why this may occur...

ECU thinks your a thrasher.
(if the ecu's self adjust to your driving style on the gv's)

Flogging the bejebus out of an engine can decarbon the engine. The increased tempurature helps burn of carbon deposits in the engine on valves, piston tops and rings.
Engines are designed to work in a certain rev range. Running too low for too long will cause carbon deposits to form harming engine performance.
You can run higher octane fuel too which helps stop this. It normally has cleaning agents added to help stop deposits as well.

I would never flog the bejebus out of my GV... lol... it was just that one time i pushed it hard... when i am in 1st and 3rd, i like to take the revs up to 5000rpm, it just sounds good with the new exhaust, he he...
I only put 95RON Premium Unleaded in mine, plus i use an additive, Flashlube, every 3rd tank, it cleans the fuel system, and helps the engine to run better...
it almost feels like something has adjusted itself, like the timing or spark has got better, even a slight tap on the go peddle, gives me increased power and responce from the engine... its hard to explain, but as soon as you push the go peddle it just has instant power now, it feels a bit like a racing car... lol... well whatever it has done to itself, it just feels awesome now !

Discovered another interesting, and welcome side effect...
Economy has gone up... did a couple of trips to perth and back in the one day mostly h'way... 270kms total, and fuel gauge was just under half a tank...

Hey macbear you should try this link & post kms per litres.
I use it all the time now for working out fuel usage. I've been thrashing around with the ac on & it got 12.4l/100km
