ok so i was thinking i own a 1987 pulsar q n13 now it has an upgraded cam vl intake plenum and throttle extractors and a 2 1/4 exhaust straight through, the motor is called a 18le its a sohc 1.8L multi point injection motor needless to say it goes quite well, there are various modifications for them people turbo them they adapt well to boost and also the standard n13 gearbox will bolt straight up to a ca18det motor so what is stopping a ca18det 5 speed or auto box from a silvia mating up to one of these? my motor is putting out around 120kw at the motor it sticks with stock 5L commos, now the only thing i could think with a conversion like this is the dizzy is like a gti motor but im sure an angle drive could be made up like the gti had done. these motors are quite cheap at a wrecker and known for there extreme reliability so im wondering would it be a good choice for people? there is information about them on www.pulsar.org.au if anyone is interested. i am going a g16b into my sierra but if i get another sierra as a project this would be a good thing to try i believe.

In my trawling of forums I havent seen this done, like you said the dizzy would be a pain to sort out. I cant remember any water outlets at the rear of the motor and was the thermostat part of the water pump? or am I getting it confused I had a n13 stocker as a run about many moons ago.

I would guess if it does mate up to a rwd n13 box that the motor or box is likely to be sitting on an angle, and google isnt helping me :(

The g16 is almost bolt in with almost the exact same amount of power which is why you don't see many "outside of the box" engine conversions.

I do like your thinking. But why go for one of these over a CA18?

well for one the head on the 18le are a lot more reliable than the ca18, ca18 have a lot of trouble getting oil to the head and always breaking, the 18le doesnt like to rev as much as the ca18 which means it makes most of its torque down low, also the 18le is an aussie motor where as most ca's are a jap motor harder to source parts these days and this motor is way easier to find and cheaper than a g16b. and the cam upgrades u can get for a 18le are really good and done without costing the realiability ive hade a few mates with ca's and they have cam sensor probs blow head gaskets ive also got mates with turbo 18les and they havent had issues. but i guess if everything is done right u shouldnt have problems but overall could be another option.

dont forget its very easy to stroke these out to a 2L which will only create even more torque which would then eat a g16b for breakfast. it would also be interesting to see what torque they produce compared to a g16b u can buy a big bore kit at suzisport to make ur g16b a 1750cc but then the other motor can go to a 2L i just think itd be cool to see something different i have also heard of people putting the sss bluebird motors in think they are a 2.4 not really legal but imagine the power lol.

How much torque does it have and when does it come in?

Mate to be honest, the standard motor sounds perfect for a sierra or vitara! 80kw and 150Nm would be very nice.

thats wat i thought to and the realiability to match and very affordable seems like endless modifications also i seen a guy on the pulsar forum with the 18le motor stroked to a 2L and he used quad throttles off a gsxr and also he turboed it on top. they arent only in pulsars either they are in camiras and holden astras also

well theres no reason why it wont bolt up to the rwd as the ca18 bolts to a stock 18le gearbox so a rwd silvia box wouldnt be any different i dont think its ever been done before lol but could be a dream result if someone could try it

ok so i have found out also that u can use a rear wheel drive ca18det motor on the 18le gearbox also so im getting closer to this source haha also just found out u can use a ca18det rear wheel drive box on a ca18 fwd motor so there is no reason why a silvia rear wheel drive box wont fit to a 18le i think its never been done before because theres never been a good reason to do it until now.

im not thinking of building this until after ive finished my 94 w/t with g16b i may buy another sierra and do this later but u can't really put a price limit on a conversion thats never been done also i like to use good parts i do nothing cheap ;) but it looks like itd move lol like i said the performance in my pulsar is surprising and it would weigh on par or more than a sierra its got no troubles getting up to 160 lol

Sorry, in joke I guess.

Sounds interesting in concept, but depends on definition of cheap/expensive, and also what people mean when they say "bolt-up" - from my recent research it can mean anything from straight swap to $1500 adaptor kits, and differences up to 800mm for where the shifter ends up... 8O
