hey guys i own a 92 widetrack sierra and went bush today came home completely washed and chamied it and whent to start it and just after it turns over it gives it a bit of crunchy noise only for a second though anibody know of any solutions

Just a guess, Maybe you've put the teeth out of allignment, try taking it out and moving the teeth on the starter and putting it back in.

While it's out, strip & clean, sound's like it's sticking on, so could have water/crap in the solenoid..

haha at least yours is sticking on... mine cuts out just before the engine turns over and makes a crappy whirrrr sound... i'm roll starting mine till tuesday! =)

sounds like a bendix proble.. usually cheaper to replace with a whole starter as the replacememt part can be $$$.

zook95 is yours a reduction drive or a big body starter?

yeah replacing mine tuesday (its a long weekend in WA) - still, to get 19 years out of a starter motor aint shabby!

How do you put the teeth out of alignment?

Usually a good punch to the mouth does the trick, sometimes I like to throw an elbow... headbutts usually leave teeth marks in my forehead.

haha Atari ... I did it on a downramp at levuka in my patrol.. hit a hole i didint see and lots of revs on the flywheel..

Im not a mechanic nor am I trying to be just passing on what Ive done and was told.

Someone is talking crap to ya Ron, won't make an ounce of difference moving the starter teeth. I would suggest as Stekky did that it may have a little mud inside it.

ummm not sure how do you tell the difference ive never heard either of them before lol

ok so mines the 1.3L starter (which i belive was rebuilt with the engine)
