Just from the point of view of a street-legal car, should this conversion be engineer-certified here in Oz?
Bit worried about insurance if ya had a bingle.

The time has come.
Vitara rear drum brakes have crapped already.
They not been fitted long,
and wheel cylinders and drums are crapped, too.
Actually I will save money in future by fitting a disc kit.
PM sent.

Apologies if its already been stated, but is there a kit made for the later model rear axles yet or is it still in development?

Yup, I have made up a kit. The first one is being installed on a Vitara right now, so assuming that goes well they will be available soon.

My local wrecker has 3 Galants listed on thier web site,
with a 4th one at another lot.
Not tried anywhere else,
but looks easy enough to get 2nd hand calipers.
New ones are listed, but a bit ouchy.
A rebuild kit would make them new anyway.
Lots of Sierra rotors around, $100 - $130 a pair.
so probably wait till pay day and get new ones.

I'm using the stock MC for my Vit, with no modifications. Hasn't been a problem.
I did have to remove the residual pressure valve on my Sierra MC when rear discs went on.
I did research wether I needed to do same on the Vit MC, but found nothing.
