Can you get the wheel bearings out of a Vitara without the special tool? and back in correctly? Does any one in Adelaide have a tool they could lend me for a hour or so next weekend?

TIP: Some housings do not have a cutout that allows you to pin punch the outer out of the hub housing.
There is a way I use and that is to weld on the inside of the outer bearing a bead all the way around it then this will give you a lip to punch the outer bearing out of the hub very easy as it is hot.
Once out if you have the new outer bearing sitting on a Ice pack you will find that the new one will just tap into place and when the hub cools down everything will be nice and snug.
Works every time

so if I dont have a welder and dont know how to weld would you suggest taking them to a machine shop to get pressed out? or just go at it with hammer like I was planning?

there should be "just" enough showing for you to get a small chisel on to, using both outer edge's of the chisel, if you know what I mean, that will get you started enough to get a punch on to it..

Bent seems to be popular, Just sent my 75 dollars across the ditch for one thismoring, dont think it will make it here for the weekend though, Got a full front end rebuild planned, bushes joints and bearings, then I am possitive that there is nothing left to fix, bar clutch......... and Im getting some one to do that, and timming belt, hopefully it will then last 6 months till my new motor is done.

If they do have the small cutout in the housing to get onto the bearing then just use the pin punch no problems. As for a press it is hard to get it to grip on an adge.
Could do as steak_knife said.
Could just go to a welding shop and tell them to weld around the inside and ask them to tap them out. You will be able to pin punch them back in cold when you get home.

The vit is a bit diffrent to TORANAS and MONAROS that I have pulled apart and put together, and the last car was to hi tech for me to touch...

I see you are planning a Clutch my 2 cents woryh would be replace it with a STD clutch (PBR is what I use) get the flywheel machined this will stop it shuttering in months to come also and a new spigot bearing $4 IF the rear main is leaking replace it with the Genuine seal ($68) instead of the aftermarket type for $20-25 they last about 3-6months.

IF it is not leaking LEAVE IT BE.
Also a LONG 600mm 1/2" drive ext bar along wit a std 14" bar makes life easy to get the to bell housing bolts out after you drop the X member and also grab a $2 17mm openend ring from Super Cheap and cut it in half to get the one on the LHS near the extractors as there is no room over there

If i had of known you were a HOLDEN supporter I would of told you they are not replaceable and buy a new front end

Only expensive now you drive a Suzuki and found how cheap they are to maintain and rapair, if ever you need to that is.
