I will be moving my front diff forward soon with either RUF or just drilling the spring perch.
Looking at using a merc steering arm to get crossover to try and avoid the arms touching. Anyone used this and got pics?
Also anyone know where to get rod ends. Will make a new drag link out of thicker tube and need some new rod ends to suit.

A- if you want the thing to be legal don't use rod ends.
B- if you want the thing to steer nice don't use rod ends. you will find these will chop out very quicky and i've seen many torn apart. i've tried using rod ends years ago......bad choice. if you want a hi-steer arm made i can make you one.

Interesting idea, hadn't thought of that before! basketcase wrote: Also anyone know where to get rod ends. Will make a new drag link out of thicker tube and need some new rod ends to suit.
CBC bearings does them. I have a contact there if you want some, might work out a little cheaper.
Just playing the devil's advocate here (ok, ok. Joe's advocate ) Have you thought about cutting a taper in the Merc arm and running something like a 80 series TRE?

Did I get something wrong?? I thought rod ends was just the name for ball joint thingy on the end of drag links and rod ties?? I did think about 80's or bigger ones, saw the kits on lowrangeoffroad. But I thought by reeming out the merc arm, pitman arm and the arms on the knuckles I would be weaken them all. You have to reem the merc arm as it is to fit the sierra. royce wrote: will the merc arm clear the chassis rail spring under?
Don't know. From what I have read on OL there was no mention of it being bad with SPUA. I will be increasing the bumpstops alot because I will not be installing a body lift and it will be some time beforeI get around to a virtual lift.
Damo can you PM me that contact??

heim joints or rose joints are often reffered to as rod ends.
if your talking tapered sealed type better off callin them tie rod ends or ball joints.

There should be enough material in the arms Suzuki knuckle housings, the pitman and the merc arm to safely ream them out to suit something like an 80 series TRE. I have a tapered sleeve in my pitman arm that reduces the size of the hole so that I can bolt a stock Sierra drag link to it. The sleeve isn't very thick. It's a Tarago arm, which apparantly takes a 80 series size TRE. basketcase wrote: You have to reem the merc arm as it is to fit the sierra.
You just need to egg out one of the holes dont you? You shouldn't need to remove much material.

I used merc arms on my WT diffs and used a NT tie rod, engineer passed it, drives great too! My good freind tells my If you want to leave the tie rod in its standard position and lift the drag link use one merc arm and then use a jimny drag link.

how high do you go before you need to change your steering with things like high arm steering and is this legal?

Not sure. I am not doing this because of height, I want to move my diff forward for clearance so I don't have to lift more to fit bigger tyres.. You don't need any bigger than a 2 inch spring lift anyway and steering arms are fine for 2 inch.

has any one ever made a plate and moved the whole steering box forward? go a cressieda box at the same time so you have power steering.
plate would be cheap to make don't know how you would go with the rta.

Not much room to move it forward because of the standard crossmember. It could be done though, and you will gain a little bit. I have an adapter plate that lets me bolt a Vitara PS box onto Sierra.
