I have done a search on here and google and not come up with anything.. It is probably something very simple but its got me stumped.

When I change out/in of 4th gear, possibly others but mostly noticable on 4th the subwoofer makes a noise similar to that of if you tap a headphone jack plugged into a speaker.

Any ideas?

Check your earth firstly.... Other than that the only thing that I can think of, is where you're running your RCA cables... Are they runnin next to any powr leads? Sometimes that interferes

Check that the fourth gear indent switch for the pollution control is working and not going straight to earth causing an earth leak that the speaker is picking up

sometimes if your sub is taking lots of power from the battery the alternator will squeal sounding sort of like a homosexual supercharger might be the problem i dunno.

my first thought, i know that when my earth to the body came loose, my lights were brighter with the clutch pressed halfway in than fully released... have you upgraded the wire for the earth since putting in the sub? the standard suzuki one is massively inadequate at the best of times, nevermind trying to run a sub through it.

I checked the earth for the sub and that was tight, I undid it and scratched away a bit more paint to get a really good connection but it still made the noise.. The 4th gear indent switch.. I havent a clue what that is, any photos by chance? Ill keep on searching for now

I found the pollution controls, it was happening in both 4th and 5th gear, so i just unplugged both of them and the little crackle has stopped.. Although I think there is definately something wrong with the wiring somewhere, the car keeps electric shocking me! If it is to do with these pollution control switches, what am I looking for in the wiring to be causing these issues?

10 bucks its to do with the stereo wiring and not that of the O.E system.

but then i wont be able to pull up at traffic lights with the music blaring because I had to have it full noise to hear it while I was driving

no doubt it is in the wiring, I paid a fella to do it however he was a real cheap bastard and did a dodgy job of it and Im not much of an autoelectrician so I have been slowly trying to fix it up

I had a similar issue but with the rear speakera, i re-did the wring (move RCA leads) and put better connectors on the speakers and it fixed

If the RCA's are on the side where the car's main wiring is, you would get more of a constant whine through out the rev range.

Hooking up a stereo is one of the easiest things you can do yourself, as long as you have a test light and can find the wire which has contant power and accessories, you should have no issues. Obviously for the amp, you would run a fused power lead from the battery directly to the amp, and accessory wire to the back of the head deck.

I sure hope the guy that installed it wasn't like the guru that installed the stereo in my crappy corolla, There wasn't a single electrical conector and I don't think he knows what solder is. All the wires were just twisted around each other wrapped in elecy tape, and there were 6 things running off the main power from the standard stereo which caused it to melt. He knew something was up because it would've been blowing fuses, his fix was to replace the 7.5amp with a 40amp fuse. I'm very suprised the car hadn't burnt to the ground. I've since ripped it all out and done it properly.

I hope your's isn't as dodgy.

If all else fails, install a Noise Filter into the Sub RCA's. (get them from Jaycar Pretty cheap)


But i'd be changing the Amp's Earthing Position first. Sounds like you have a backfeed. the other thing i would change is the Headunits Earthing Position.
