Dont want to cut it.. live with it being a tight awkward fit I believe is the consensus...
There is a better way

Undo the 2 bolts that hold the steering column to the cross bar. You'll then be able to push the column down enough to get the cluster out.
Also remember there are 4 screws holding the cluster in, 2 countersunk ones on top of the dash and 2 screws undernear the cluster.
