my stock sierra ute 87 model on the highway stock tyre size if i floor it will go to 160.. lol way past top speed on the speedo 140 =P it screams at about 4100 rpm so i ease off. maybe its cause its alot lighter than the hard and soft top. i think it could get to 175 if i was full throttle for about 2 minutes but it'd be doin 4500 rpm.

with the 29s i got mine to read 127kmish on the speedo down a huge hill on the western hwy. in 5th gear ofcourse. swb 1.3 stock gearing stock everything.

hmm well my speedo goes wayy past 140 and i speed past cars on the highway quite fast. its like 4100-4200 area. lol was dragging this little barina and was keeping up, shoulda seen their faces haha

lets see.....a stock zook....with stock tyres....should be revving around to 4000 rpm when its at 100.....so 4100 at 160 should equate to.....40 inch tyres... when me and ken went off our dials we were doing about 6000 rpm....just shy of the rev limiter. you got a nos bottle hooked up?....oh...and check your calibration.

with 31s i have had mine up past the end of the speedo.. thats with my adjusted gauges.. ill get the gps cranking next time.. but i am too scared to take my eyes off the road at that speed! farken changes lane all on its own!

Lets go roughly on some calculations

say a WT sierra with 235/75R15 on it

235/75R15 = 2.3M per revolution
205/70R15 = 2.09m per revolution

3.7 diff gears
1.4 transfer high range
0.85 5th gear
total reduction = 4.403
so to make the rear wheel do 1 revolution per minute the engine will have to do 4.403 revolutions per minute thus making the car travel at 2.3 metres per minute = 0.138km/h

so say 160km/h = 2.667 km/ minute
2667m/m = 1159 wheel revolutions per minute
1159 wheel revolutions per minute = 5103 rpm for the engine

this is not what the speedo will be saying though. This is calculated speed not allowing for the weight of the car decreasing the actual diameter of the tyre.

If we change this to a 205/70R15 then it will be a lot different.

so say 160km/h = 2.667 km/ minute
2667m/m = 1276 wheel revolutions per minute
1276 wheel revolutions per minute = 5618 rpm for the engine

Vitarda are even different again

high range = 1:1
5th gear = 0.85
4.5 diff gears
total reduction = 3.825
235/75R15
so say 160km/h = 2.667 km/ minute
2667m/m = 1159 wheel revolutions per minute
1159 wheel revolutions per minute = 4433 rpm for the engine
205/70R15
so say 160km/h = 2.667 km/ minute
2667m/m = 1276 wheel revolutions per minute
1276 wheel revolutions per minute = 4880rpm for the engine

Just back on topic, one thing you can do, is check the scondaries in the carby are working. Take the vacuum line off the inlet manifold which goes to the air cleaner assembly (for the hot air control) and connect it to the secondary actuator diaphram on the carby. When the engine is running you should see it pull the diaphram up. Using a mirror look down the secondary side of the carby and make sure you can see fuel going into it when you rev the crap out of it. I do emphasize don't just look down the carby, because by chance if it backfires through the carby you are going to be in deep shit and a world of pain. If it is all working, just try leaving that vacuum line on and go for a drive down the freeway and see if it makes a differance.
I've actually just put a t-peice in the vacuum line that goes from the charcoal cannister to the carby, so the secondary actuator still opens the secondaries under vacuum conditions and closes again at idle, it makes a world of differance, and goes like the powers of piss right throught to 6500 rpm. Only drawback I can think of, you'll probably use more fuel.
