What would your clutch feel like if the clutch plate was put on backwards when the clutch put together?

The reason I ask is; I have about a 1/3 stroke play in my clutch pedal, it's in the pedal it self. The cable doesn't move at all, kinda like the pedal has been bent. I've had the gearbox out and put a new clutch when I've changed engines but I haven't touched the pedal end of the clutch cable at all...

I've taken the cable off and dropped some oil down it thinking that the cable was jamming inside the casing but that obviously wasn't the issue.

Anyone has any suggestions?

Im not 100% certain, but from memory you cant fit the clutch plate backwards. It wont fit..

x2, i checked when doing my clutch the other weekend to make sure i couldnt do it wrong. doesnt fit.

It kinda feels like the cable is too long, so it takes that 1/3 stroke before the cable takes up

the pedal is spring loaded, it will always come all the way up regardless of adjustment, which is what you need to do to the cable.

Mmmmmmmm how you figure its the clutch if the cable doesn't move at all and its all in the pedal?

you don't adjust a cable 'a bit more' you adjust a cable to the right spot

you want a few mm free play at teh clutch arm, IE you grab the arm and move it back and forth it only moves a few mm

That's exactly how it is now, but approx 1/3 of the pedal's stroke is free play where the cable doesn't move at all. Soon as you compress the pedal enough to move the cable to clutch opperates as normal/feels normal.

push the lever on the box forward with one hand, pull back on the cable with the other, USE SOME EFFORT DON'T BE A LIMP WRIST

if you have more than 5mm gap between the lever and the adjuster nut that normally sits against the lever you aren't trying hard enough, screw it in more

Maybe you are

if the cable isn't moving its one of two things

You haven't pulled it all the way through so its just flapping about at the pedal end, so you are a limp wrist

Or the cable outer is stuffed, probably where it bends around the bottom rad hose, but you'd know that cause you'd pay attention to relevant threads on here and known its common and did some troubleshooting before pulling it all apart

It was fine before pulling the box out and changing the clutch...

oil down cables doesn't help either good way to get more dirt and crap stuck down it.

Tried pulling the cable through Royce but it didn't move at all, I did notice the pedal is extremely soft which makes me think the return spring is worn out/broken... Would that stop the cable from returning all the way and give me the play found in the pedal?

nope, you dont need the return spring for the clutch to operate
