what size allen key socket thing is needed to undo the plugs in the diffs,transfer and gearbox?

there are allen key ones

think its 10mm, grab a 6mm bolt with a 10mm head and see if it fits

mine had the squre for the shifter in it! So you wack the shifter in and undo it!

3/8 drive normally fits, use your rachet

hehe I am pretty sure there are 3 types

square drive, they are 10mm as well but a 3/8 ratceht gets you out of trouble if they arent tight

the pipe plug, these have the square bit that sticks out, these are best to get undone but no good in the drain holes in the diffs

and allen key, so proper 6 sided hole, I think these are the best as long as they dont get burred and you have a proper inhex socket

Am I correct in thinking that the magnetised Gbox plugs also fit the Tcase and diffs?

3/8 drive breaker bar worked for me, except in the case of the fill plug on the rear diff, where a hammer and chisel did the job.:s

yes there is, but they are often short so you cant swing off em to get em loose anyway

I dont know of anything like something you can stick on a breaker bar but it seems like a good enough reason to waste some time looking at it tomorrow

The torque wrench I bought is reversible and about twenty inches long..
Guy said I could use it for diff and gearbox plugs.(3/8 drive)

You guys reckon it would be ok or would that put it out of calibration?

and they arent 3/8" they are 10mm, youll all appreciate the difference when you get a tight one

my old 85 sierra required a 22mm (i think) socket for the transfer case and gearbox plugs. not sure if that was factory, but they were all the same so it looked standard.

On my 95' sierra both diff filler plugs actually took a 11mm square drive tool, the 3/8 inch drive was too small and chewed out and damage the plugs. i managed to mangle mine but get them off but had to buy new ones from Suzuki to replace them, the new ones measured 11mm as well using vernier calipers.

i hunted around for a 11mm square drive tool but the only place i could find one was part of a kinchrome set which was $80 and that had 6 or 7 other drain plug tools i would never use, so i couldnt justify buying them, i used a 3/8 inch drive and didnt do the plugs up super tight.

All the gearbox and transfer plugs as well as the gearbox fill plugs are all probably 10mm but a 3/8 inch drive ratchet converts to roughly 9.5mm and fits fine.

Buy a cheapo 1/2" drive breaker from supercrap and grind it down until its a nice tight fit.

my drover is the same i'm pretty sure i used an 11/16 or something socket on mine
