I have a set of cheap SCA one spot and spread and retrofit a hid kit off eBay into them, they're freakn bright.

Ive got a set from SCA, the nite stalker ones. For the price i dont reckon youd get much better!

They look insanely bright from the pics, I was thinking of hooking up a bike light but didn't know how to eliminate the strobe etc. That and I don't know if I have the skills.... If you want to try your skills and want cheap led components etc try www.dealextreme.com they have HEAPS of led stuff but shipping to austraia is a nightmare I waited for two months for one order!

Which would suggest that the lights were cheap to begin with.

There are expensive lights, inexpensive lights & cheap lights - expensive ones are, well expensive and you get your moneys worth, inexpensive ones will work reasonably well, in some cases almost as well as the expensive ones for a lot less, cheap ones are another story, there are many, many cheap lights out there, most of them coming out of China, that have no beam pattern to speak of, they scatter light everywhere except where you need it - put a brighter light and the scatter that too.

Unless you have used good lights you'll never understand what I'm saying - this is one instance where you just have to see it for yourself.

Yeah mate, I'm not trying to compare cheap lights with expensive ones, they're expensive because they're better. I just done a 55w hid conversion to a mates lite force and you can't compare SCA lights to them. I was just saying if you had spotlights (SCA or other cheapies) then putting a cheap hid kit in them will be far better bang for buck.

I had the same issue with my lights with having low and strobe modes. I have managed to eliminate the modes to have high only. Ill be posting the details how on the link above soon.

I will try and get a comparison shot with HIDs and Halogen spotties, but as I have taken the spotties off, as I am selling the car to upgrade, it will be a few months before the pics will come.

But please be mindful when looking and comparing beamshots from other people, the camera settings play a big difference in how things look.

I have some $70 SCA on mine, they are cheap as hell and it shows, but they are water tight in my experience, rains water and splashing. I haven't submerged them entirely. I turn them on and I can see better so they are effective for my $70, not just for show.

I'm saying don't waste your money on cheap lights, and don't waste you money putting cheap HID kits into cheap lights.

For what you spend on a cheap light and a cheap HID kit you can get an inexpensive light that actually puts the light where you NEED it to be, rather than bright and everywhere else.

I've seen cheap HID retrofits and like you say they're freakn bright, and I've driven cars with factory HIDs - there's a significant difference - freakn bright does you no good unless the light is where it's needed.

Like I said - you're never going to understand it until you use a good light.

Champ, I put my OPINION in this as an option for people to consider. So calm ya farm. Not everyone can afford expensive lights. I've done a few conversions on cheap and expensive lights, same result they all like hid better. So in fact I have seen good lights (hard to believe I know). I didn't know you felt this strongly on the matter.

@Dale do those light throw very far ? Or better suited to reversing/ work lights?
