Hi,
I am after a black 2011/12 jimny but no one seems to have one at a decent price.
I was thinking about buying a white one, sanding the paint of and painting it matte black.
Anyone know if an amateur can do something like this for a reasonable price and result? Or how much to get it done professionally?
I know nothing about painting.
Cheers

Firstly, you will need to reloacte to Brisbane. Make sure to move to one of the following suburbs.
Woodridge
Inala
Forest lake ( Inala heights)
Then, grow a Mullet, knock a tooth out of your mouth, smash a winny blue into your gob, step into your best pair of thongs and get your arse down to centre link and let them pay for the matte black spray job on your jimny.
Problem solved.

You can get that colour wrap stuff... seems ok...
alternatively you could just buy an Excel, whack a 747 wing on the boot, 100" cat-back exhaust and some cheap chrome rims....

How does a black jimny look any less like a hairdressers car than a white one?
Seriously though..... painting it matte black will instantly devalue it. It will ALWAYS look like a home job, unless you spend big $$$ getting a pro paint shop to do it.
Just be patient and wait for qa black jim to come up for sale, or buy a gay white one.

Cheers fat.
Not worried about resale.
Its purely a fishing car. Wont drive it around town or to work or anything.
Just want a cheap beach car that can tow a jetski.
I can save a little face shark fishing on the beach with a black zook, but white or blue is just asking for trouble

why not buy a modded sierra/vit? surely for the money a 11/12 jimny would cost you would be able to get a pretty sorted car that would be much more non gay

I know what you're saying, a standard jimny looks a little gay but whack a nice bar on the front, a decent set of tyres and maybe a snorkel and you'll only look bisexual....

towing a jetski will be very painful in a jimny, as previously said the coin a 2011/12 jimny would cost get some thing with more power.
I know form a friend who tried to tow a jetski with a jimny, he soon bought some thing else.

a pro job would cost you average 4 grand.
home job, i wouldnt wanna start on a new car, and its 99% prepping (stripping, sanding. taking of doors seals and rubbers blah blah) and 1% painting.
yeah not worth it haha.
for the money you could get a nice seirra flog a turbo deisel in it and get it all modded. well maybe not for the money, but would be nice

Look it doesn't really matter what colour it is or what accessories you fit. While I accept that Jimny's are quite capable, they will always be gayer than aids.

yeah not sure why you want to buy a 2011/12 jimny only to spend ages doing prep work to paint it
and then have it look like shit because you have never painted a car before
and then only dive it to the beach and back because apparently it still looks too gay to be seen driving it in town....
sorry man even if you did the paint work properly and it looked good it is still utter craziness....

That's so dum it's funny. I think you should give it a go. $2.99 per can of export matt black spray, would need about ten of them but if you put it on thin maybe six would do. No gay man would be seen dead in any make of car that looked the way it will, so mission definitely accomplished.

average cost for a colour change paintjob by shops in perth starts at 6k
the colour u choose doesnt have much bearing on the price unless u go some crazy custom shiz, as mentioned its all in the prepwork

Just buy a white one and a balaclava to wear while you're driving to the beach.

why new?
Coz i had a 97 vitara and it drove me nuts with problems.
Cooked cluth on the beach, nearly never made it home. Leaks, rust, alternator dies et etc.
I will never by used anything again.
A new jim will be a good fishing car for the next decade.
And a shit bogan paint job will make it look respectable to the average fisherman.
Might have a black lined up.

Remember it will hurt the first couple of times but eventually you may grow to love it, after all, they say that the male g-spot is in the ass.....

Have a think too about how hot a matt black vehicle is going to get being parked at the beach for a couple of hours. You won't need to cook your fish when you get home, they'll be oven baked by the time you get there!
