all fab work and fitting i will be doing myself.I've got the skills for it.i don't want to sound like im blowing my own whistle.the only things i will need done is tuning.wiring.welding fitting turbo.rebuilding the bottom end if i decide to pull it apart i will do.its just the knowledge im lacking.i know it sounds silly but i do want the sound and a slight power upgrade.if there is a motor i can fit in and will mate to the current box id love to know about it. as i said its the knowledge im lacking at the moment.once i have my head around what i need and how i need to go about it ill be ok

I think that leaves you with hanging the smelly tree off the rear view mirror mate. Sorry, but if you can't weld, tune, wire, or fit a turbo, you are right up at the $6K end of the job I'm afraid. Quote: i know it sounds silly but i do want the sound and a slight power upgrade Now we get to the bottom of the issue. You want a car that spools and sneezes. Yep, that's cool, I admit. I've built and owned cars that spool and sneeze.... using factory turbo motors. Bugger going aftermarket turbo, it's just not cost effective. Turboing your stock motor is the most expensive possible way of arriving at whatever power figure you want. Why are you worried about your gearbox? Suzuki gearboxes aren't anything special - choose a suitable gearbox, then choose the engine you want that does the job that suits that gearbox. If a gearbox swap is too hard/costly to consider you aren't ready for a turbo conversion. Sorry if this seems negative, but from the research you have done and the questions you are asking, you're heading towards an empty bank account, a broken engine., and an unfinished project. Steve.

speaking from experience, your heading down a road for disaster if you continue to do things by halfs. The T25 from a CA18DET is a good match for the G16 engine, I'm running one on mine it has a great torque curve with very little lag, But bolting on a turbo and hoping for the best is only 1% of the equation. I ran a standard engine computer and a standard engine, the factory injectors max'd out way too quick and the factory N/A timing curve made it hard to avoid detonation on boost, which for me ended up with 3 out of 4 pistons with broken ring lands. So second time round i picked up a S\H haltech programmable computer on the cheap, did up the fuel system to cope with the expected HP and built the engine to handle boost. At the end of the day i've dropped close to $6000 under the bonnet to acheve what i want and i'm not making huge horsepower, but in the end it doesn't matter, i find now when i go wheeling i very rarely use the power i have available and i have to worry about it over heating due to a FMIC and strung out engine when crawling on hot days, because i have reduction gearing the added HP is irreverent, In saying that a G13 to G16B 16v upgrade is an awesome upgrade off road but as for the turbo well it's good in mudruns and gymkana's or wherever you get a chance to stretch it's legs, but normal offroading it's not needed and on the road it just attracts unwanted attention. Once you get the engine producing bigger hp then you have to contend with the rest of the drive line, Example on the first week i had my engine tuned i managed to split my transfer case in half and trash a set of 4.19 reduction gears goodbye bank balance again

Hmm
After reading all this im thinking it may be easier to find a more suitable engine.

Detonation is the killer of most things. Combined with ultra lean conditions and boost no doubt the G16 life was defiantly on the death bed from the word go. Did you even run a RRFR on this first attempt? Who has actually boosted a stock G16b with a well tuned aftermarket computer and how long did it last? May not be the strongest engine but I actually haven't come across a build with a stock engine running an adequate tune and boost. Without the fuelling and proper timing adjustments it really doesn't stand a chance at all.

There is one reason why I decided to fit an already turbo charged motor, instead of building one up. Couldnt be happier, and cost about the same as what some G16B conversions on here, however I did all the work myself. (price not including engineering)

Without the fueling and proper timing adjustments it really doesn't stand a chance at all. I had a cheapy RRFR on it but it wasn't intercooled back then and it was running a smaller turbo. we all learn from our mistakes, just comes down to how much money you waste learning the lesson

Nothing that comes from a sierra will stand up to 200+HP and 275Nm. Thats almost 4 times the factory power. A G16B can easily wreck a sierra driveline when driven aggressively, so an SR20DET will destroy it without any effort at all. Have you even done the G16B swap yet?
