has anybody on here done a jimny engine conversion into a sierra? im guessing the block would be similar to the stock carby motor, so it might/could be a bolt in job?? i know the vit 1.6 has more power but i more or less just want injection. any info would be great, thanks

keep your standard engine mounts, you unbolt the engine mounts from your old block and bolt them to the g13bb.
you use a jimny top rad hose and one of the jimny heater hoses
use a sierra bottom hose and one of the sierra heater hoses
use jimny brake booster vacuum hose
bolts to the gearbox and they use the same clutch.
need to do wireing and plumb the airbox... DONE
i used a jimny accelorator cable and modded the pedal end
computer fits behind glovebox
i think it is a pretty big gain they rev harder than a g16b with standard exhausts manifolds they just don't have the torque. I have a freind with a g16b vit and i leave it behind up untill like 3rd gear after that it eats me. For me the improvement was well worth it. Even the fact that it starts straight away every time and sounds nice and runs smooth and would stay alive even upside down. I also like how they have coil packs instead of distrubutors, and i also like how they don't have the seperate air flow metres like g16b's do
jimny air hose, to sierra air box, peice of joiner in there.

so how do they rev harder than a g16b? both engines have thier rev limiters at the same point. airflow meters are a better system for efi rather than map sensors, but they both work well. the only problem i have with g13bb's is that i threw a few away due to engine problems, not only myself but local suzi dealers too, and they are starting to pull a good dollar because of said problems. i ended up doing a g16 conversion in my jimny..........ahh..........all my unreliabilaty went away.

Fair enough, i just mean they seem to rev out a bit quicker not the point they rev to, sorry. whats sort of issues where you having ?. and i was talking i don't like the airflow meter purely just because of where it has to sit not about how it works or anything.
i just did it because the conversion was easy, i would be interested to find out what issues you where having if this motor dies i will set fire to the sierra.

The 1.3 might rev a little quicker due to it's shorter stroke. The reciprocating components are most likely a little lighter as well.

how about a M13A?
just wondering because my jimny has one.
someone said they are more reliable but i guess someone saying that doesn't mean much really
i know they have a bigger bore and shorter stroke. also is dohc, twin cam.
but what else if different?

it would be harder to fit. the reason people would go the G13bb is that they are still a G13 engine and therefore drop straight in, i was looking for info on the M13A to see if anyone had done a conversion but couldnt find anything

M13a also has some fancy inbuilt antitheft stuff going on too which makes wiring it into a sierra a right pain in the ass

m13a's are so horrible you pretty much need an entire m13a jimny to take the ignition switch coded key door switches and all sorts out of. It all seems to be intermangled

the m13a was the motor that replaced the g13bb after it became a problematic motor

or more likely because they had brought the m series engines in the whole range of Suzuki that had previously had g series engines so they put one in the updated jimny aswell.
M13A is a twin cam mulitpoint injected 1.3, they also have a vvt version aswell.

there needs to adapters and stuff but no they don't bolt straight in. you could use an aftermarket computer but it would be a complete engine rewire

G series all the way, I have a g13bb in my carry and its a beast super reliable and a friend has one thats done over 330,000klms without missing a beat.
I would stick with the G series, the g13bb is used extensively now on light aircraft thanks to its reputation. They have g13b style rods and the sohc 16v head is the same as the vitara 16v.

The m13a is a much better engine than the g13bb, but would be a lot harder to fit to a Sierra.
Im not a fan at all of the g13bb engine, but a 16valve efi engine upgrade for a Sierra doesnt get much easier and they are a big improvement over the standard engine, although they are pretty expensive last time i checked.
Id go 1.6, but hey, thats just me!
