hooked everything up today when the ignition was on "on" all the dash lights lit up, the check engine light did not. tried to start it and the starter motor made a noise like it was going to crank but it didn't. it sounded like the battery was dead but I checked it with a multimeter and its fine. tried to start it twice more, same noise. the fourth time nothing happened no dash lights at all. currently all the fuses are fine and the clock works when the ignition is off however when I turn it on the clock turns off. are these hopefully the symptoms of a easy fix?

Is this a G16 transplant into a Sierra? Have you checked all your earths? Start with the main ones first

I assume it's an EFi? Who did the wiring? If it doesn't fire you might just have to start from the beginning and check everything

yes it is an efi. I did the wiring myself. ha probably a recipe for disaster but I triple checked everything as I went through. but ya if it doesn't fire there were a few areas around the dizzy where the wiring was a bit confusing that I'll go back through.

This sounds promising - did you meter the battery while it was cranking or just sitting? You need to know the battery holds voltage while under load, or it could be farked.

Hopefully it's that simple!

Voltage is no real indication of a battery's state of charge.
