I have printed off alot of info on the conversion topics but still not sure how to set up the fuel.

I have googled bunch of setups and just couldnt grasp whats involved.

I want to keep my long ranger fuel tank if i can (i do have the donar Vitara tank) what are the options?

I dont mind spending a bit, if its a simple setup and will save time.

Vehical is Spring Under with 2" Body Lift

Ideas were :
- Lift Pump and Surge Tank
- Swirl Pot and Vit pump into the long ranger
- high pressure arrangement
- make the vit tank fit

any other options?

Sorta looking for the simplest way of going about it?

A coily tank bolts into the Sierra stock tank mounts and the vitara intank pump fits into the coily tank. This is how I did mine. Really easy but it can be hard to find a coily tank.

The long ranger may already have a swirl pot in it. My mates one did.

If this is the case, you just need to extend the cage on the donor pump ( so it is the right depth ) and fit to the tank. You MAY need to have the pump mounting boss changed if your current one does not suit the vit pump.

Exhaust these options before going external pumps and surge tank. Whilst both methods are equally effective, the in-tank will be the neatest option.

The pump sits in a mounting cage. The cage bolts to a mounting ring that is welded to the top of the tank.

If your lank has NO mounting ring, you will need to have one made ( $25 at a machine shop ) and have it welded to the top of your tank, after the hole has been cut for the pump.

Email long Ranger and see who their authorised dealer/ repairer is in your area, and get a quote from them. Welding to tanks can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

I have the g16b in my Sierra. I was told by many people to just run standard carby tank to a vl efi pump to efi filter to engine. Should have listened to the minority that said surge tank etc. my mechanic mate took it for a spin and straight away picked up on the lack of fuel around corners. So we are getting a small underbody surge tank, lifter pump etc. Goes to show not everyone is right!

tank > lift pump > surge tank > EFI pump > injector rail > pressure reg > surge tank > tank

thats the usual set up. should at lest have 2 filters in that system. a z14 or similar between the tank and lift pump and a z200 between the efi pump and injector rail

Pic modified.

There should be a low pressure filter before the first pump.

This is my setup, I don't use a lift pump or surge tank

Carbie tank ---- low pressure filler -----(edit) external efi pump ----- high pressure filter ---- injector rail
(2nd hand feroza efi pump)

Installed for over a year, 40000+ km lots of angles, never had a problem

I ran the coily tank and Vitara pump and it worked fine. A few have used the Vitara tank.

Closer to the tank is better. Not that it makes a huge difference. Hight doesent matter. Just as long as it is in a place where it can't get hit or knocked off

Interesting. I just run an inline HP pump mounted on the chassis rails close to the tank and get no cornering surge issues until my tank has <~3L remaining. It's a good indicator as to when you need to find a servo ;)

Offroad on descent angles never had a pickup issue. Then again I never go wheeling with <1/4 of a tank anyway...

The issue doing it that way. Most of the external pumps don't like pulling fuel out of a tank. Thow they may work. It puts extra stain on the pump. The were designed to have a flooded intake.

This is what I've heard and had serve doubts about when I set mine up ie: will have trouble priming/picking up fuel, will be extremely loud and cavitate causing the pump to fail quickly etc.

I left the distance for the tank to pump as short as possible to give it a chance. For the 2/3 years I've had the car running I've had no issues with the pump or fueling. The pump I got was also secondhand and used in a previous EFI conversion so it already had a pretty hard life. I've run out of juice and had it low a number of times and it still runs nice and quiet. You can just hear a faint humm from inside the cab when the pump is running, engine off.
