anyone with a bit of brake knowledge id like to have a chat to.

someone that knows the difference with mounting and having a full floating caliper or a lug mounted one etc.

as well as info on piston sizes to master cylinder size needed.

Floating calipers only have piston/s on one side.
Fixed calipers need pistons both sides of rotor.
More pistons usually means better braking..

does anyone know what size master cylinder is needed for a piston area of 1.98"^2 or 1277.41mm^2 on each side so i guess a total of 3.84"^2 or 2554.82mm^2 im unsure of how brakes work in the sence of if the master cylinder is shared on each side or is its force equal on both sided no matter how many lines come off it. IE is the pressure the same for 1 calipers as it is for 2 calipers. if that makes sense.

iv searched heaps for this kind of info but no where seems to have anything definant. not even caliper makers like wilwood tell you what size is needed.

Talk to your local brake service, pretty sure they'll be able to sort ya stoppage issues out!!

Might be easier if you tell us what the calipers you want to use are off...AND... are you using them on the front or rear? If front, drum or disc rear? What size rears?

Im looking into upgrading my front and rear brakes on my jimny. the calipers im looking at putting on are from wilwood 4pot these are the calipers im wanting to fit http://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/Caliper ... ow-Profile

they will fit in the wheel for dia up to 11.4" disks but i need to get home to my jimny to check if they will fit for thickness (using there template of them) then its just making up a bracket so they can be held on. and maybe a larger master cylinder.

as for rears i haven't looked into yet. but will proably by 10" single piston floating caliper.

That Wilwood caliper is made to work with a 0.81" (20.574mm) thick rotor.. IE Vented.
What is the thickness of Jimny rotors?
All the looking I've done says 10.0mm.

ill be upgrading the rotors too if i can find ones that fit.

or ill go to their machined version of the same thing they can do thinner rotors

I wonder if vented efi vitara's discs and calipers will fit?

Common swap on sierra's. Might be worth hunting for something similar

for the cost of wilwood calipers is quite cheap only about $300 for a pair of calipers from them its quite cheap as long as the calipers fit in the wheel width wise, then they will be a really good upgrade for the jimny. plus if i do get it done others can do it also. as ill let everyone know what i did to get it.

they do make thoes same calipers i posted there but in a machined verson they are the same size and do all the same size rotors but can do down to 9.7mm thick rotors. and up to a 12" disk (but that wont fit in a 15" wheel) but 10-11.5" dia rotors will fit with thoes calipers in a 15" wheel.

does anyone know what size dia rotors the jimny has stock? if no one knows ill just have to measure then when i get home tomorow.

also i will be measureing up the old hub and calipers and make up a Cad bracket so i can get them made up at some point as well.

Would love a good brake upgrade for the jimny! I recently fitted new slotted discs new ebc pads, rear pads in the drum and still the brakes are average at best. Yes I have fitted an extra 4.3t worth of accessories and Yup I'm running 31" muddies, and yup I wish to fit force fed 1.6 ltr engine........the brakes only just cope now so an upgrade is needed before the next steps are taken. Listen to me, I definitely am getting old now.... Would have dropped a v8 in it years ago and thought about the brakes after the first test run!

I've fitted wilwood 4 pots to sierras. Never had to upgrade master cylinder.

Just fit braided lines.

Also, be VERY carefull how you mount them. Engineering will be required.

what do you mean by careful?

and i know engineering will be required. were they hard to fit to sierras?

also where did you buy them from as i doubt wilwood will ship directly to me.

Spidertrax. You can still order calipers, but they used to do cnc brackets for sierras.
