Don't waste your money on a high flow cat on a 1.6 vitara, its money for nothing. The difference between a new standard cat and highflow cat would not be of any gain on a lower horsepowered cars.
Hmmm, not sure i agree with that... a stock cat is THE biggest restriction... i got a hiflo cat put on my old 89 1.6 carby vit, it has the lowest power of the 1.6 range, and i felt the difference, the engine just felt like it farted alot freer than before... if you can afford a hiflo cat, then i recommend getting one...
i'd say the stock cat would have been pretty blocked when removed, did you do back to back testing with a new stock cat & a hi-flow cat to back up your claims or just fit the hi-flow atfer removing the original exhaust?
It had a newish stock exhaust with cat on when i bought it, the exhaust place reckoned about 5yrs old, and no the cat wasnt blocked, not even partially... didnt need to test, just felt so much better afterwards, i am a confirmed convert to hiflo cats now, hehe...

Firstly, make sure the Cat is Metal, not Ceramic... From what i know, maybe someone can clarify it/correct me, 100 cell " Race " Cats have the highest flow rate, and are used mainly on racing vehicles, but, are not road legal, they are so open inside, its almost like having nothing there at all... 200 cell metal Cats have a much higher flow rate than stock ceramic cats, control emissions well, and are road legal... 300 cell metal cats, are extremely high flow, but also can be the most expensive... Pretty sure mine is a 200 cell...
Also, cell count is not everything. A lot of cheaper cats will have much thicker walls in the honeycomb, with low cell count, and flow worse than a higher quality cat with more cells, and that is actually doing something...

so Ive been looking at extractors, do you need to put a bigger exhaust on to get the "5%" increase in power? has anyone actually tested their cars Kilowatts before then after? this is the onehttp://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI. ... 587wt_977I found on Ebay that seems a reasonable price!

Here's the link without the extra words so it works http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261102553377 ... 3D1&_rdc=1 Thats the extractors I bought seem to be good quality but just check whether you have the three bolt flange or two bolt where it connects your standard header pipe to your exhaust system, this extractor has the two bolt flange, I had the three bolt one and had to cut the old one off and weld to the extractors to replace the two bolt. Hope this made sense. If you have a three bolt just contact seller and he will change. Millsy

Extractors do help, but yeah, you really need the bigger exhaust, with less restriction, to get the full benefit... nope never tested, i know alot say it would be difficult to feel the extra 5%, but i can feel the difference with every car i had a sports system put on... those are the same extractors i had on my old Vit, they are good and well made, and for the price, with free delivery, you cant go wrong...

There was a very interesting article kicking around on line where an owner dyno'ed his M13 jimny before and after a range of exhaust modifications.
He lost power after the extractors and exhaust were fitted on the dyno, by about how much people say they "gain" by fitting extractors/system.
Not arguing with your "seat of the pants-o-meter" there MacDaddy, only saying it's not everyone's experience.
Steve.
I would like to know what size exhaust was put on the M13 Jimny, as i cant imagine it come up with a lose in power, except if the exhaust was to big... Really need to drive it around for a few weeks after extractor and exhaust combo is fitted, thats when i felt the most gain, but the same day it was done, i didnt feel any difference...
No problem, no arguments here, just sayin is all, maybe some cant feel any difference... i know the GV was the most noticeable, and best improvement i felt from any car i did it too... haha, i like that, "seat of the pants-o-meter", good one...
