Hey Guys,

Very seriously considering the 1.6 baleno engine swap for my 96 sierra, Could someone tell me the year they started using coil packs instead of dizzys?

Cheers

I don't know 100%, but I've fitted a 2000 model and it was coil pack.

Fairly certain that 1999 onwards were coil pack

This one has been on gumtree for a bit, seems a little dodgey but could be ok for the engine, easier to buy a whole car so you definitely have everything.

I think it would be a call VicRoads first thing. I don't think there would be an issue because the car can never be registered again without a VIV cert, but to change engine number after an engine swap you just have to prove ownership of then engine I believe.

I dont see it as any different from buying an engine from the wreckers they all come from written off cars/repairable write off's.

Yeah good point, still need some convincing though. The thought of all that wiring scares me a little.

Pretty sure '99 was the change over year. So some were diz and some were coil.

98.

There were 2 types of coilpacks.
98' had some on the back of the head, 4 pin plugs. Rare.

Late 98 had them on top. 3 pin plugs. more common

I've had both
