OK it sounds like you are on the right track. What settings have you gone with? Let everyone know because it might save a future Mio owner some time!

At the moment it is on Com 1 at 4800 BUT this setting has to be manually put in, the auto will not just find the gps there

Well I can now report that it does NOT work on that above com. I have no idea why it wont recieve. I can stand in a location, mio maps recieved the satellites, soft reset the device and let MioPocket install, go into ozi and there is no way I can make it recieve. My current NMEA (GPS) settings are:

Port Setting:
Communication Port - Auto find NMEA GPS
Baud - 4800
Sentence - GPRMC
GPS NMEA Output Datum - Auto Shift .....

Other:
Use Chk Sum
Check Valid
Say Fix Info
Auto Satellite View

Connect:
Close GPS Port on PDA Off
ReOpen GPS Port on PDA On

ReConnect GPS if Connection Lost

SIRF:
(both unticked)

Would someone be able to check this against there settings and tell me if there are any differences? Thanks

I just did a little research for you.

Try COM2 @ 57600 baud.

Apparently that is the default port settings for the Mio Moov series.

Also, you have clicked the GPS icon to turn on GPS? This is the icon that looks like a satellite dish (down the bottom of the main map view page)...

It is the one with the 'box' around it:

Thanks Pez,

When I try it on that I get the old error "Unable to open Port - it may be in use by another program or utility or may not exist on this device"

And yeah I have been tapping that dish every time I try a new setting.

Also my ozi doesnt look exactly like that either? mine does not have the top bar but I dont suppose that matters?

OK - Dont worry about that pic - It is different to mine too! It is just a random pic off the internet that shows the button I was talking about.

I dont know why you are having so much trouble with your Mio running Ozi. It seems as though most people have had no trouble getting it to work. Keep playing with those port settings - COM2 @ 57600 sounds like a step in the right direction though.

Perhaps ask the question on the official MioPocket forum? Soemone there will know for sure...

http://gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.as ... _ID=126303

EDIT: You are a step ahead of me - I just saw that you have already asked the question there! :) Hopefully someone will have an answer for you soon - It is possible that MioPocket 3.0 has some issues - maybe version 2.0 might be a better option for you? Food for thought...

Cheers,

Pez

yeah, just waiting for a reply there. A guy a couple of pages earlier says that he has similar problems, that a different program, not ozi, also couldnt find the gps. He says how he fixed it but i dont understand it. here is what he said:
Quote:
Hi,

I'm glad to have a new version with nice display and continuous improvement.
I have two remarks concerning MIO Moov 580 for next versions:
- GPS device is not configured by default, I have to edit MioAutoRun\Programs\TroNik\GPS.ini and put port=2 and baudrate=57600
- Bluetooth won't work out of the box. Is it possible to improve install section in readme.txt so that it includes Bluetooth setup for Mio Moov 580: what to download, how to configure it and how to edit MioPocket menus to have icons work ?

Up to now, readme only says about bluetooth "Note that many GPS devices, such as Mio Moovs, do not come with a menu and, thus, these icons may be of little use"

Best regards

No I figured out what that meant and I did what he said. Now when you go into ozi the error, "Unable to open Port - it may be in use by another program or utility or may not exist on this device", is still there but it MUST be that another program is using it. I dont know how to completely turn off MIO as it runs in the background

Hey Pez, do these come with an AC charger? Is it 240v?

EDIT: Checked my googles, looks like it does and it's 240v. Gonna get me one of these 8)

only one program can be using the port the gps is on at one time, it may be worth checking something else isnt grabbing it, or if it shows up any program ports not COM ports

my saus generally wont start sending a gps signal under 5kmhr too, you might need to go for a jog holding it towards the sky :)

Hi all,

Zook_Fan - Sorry I'm not a Mio expert, but it does seem like another program is grabbing onto the GPS device. Hopefully you will get an answer on the Miopocket forum soon. It might be worth trying Miopocket2.0...

Damo - Yep it comes with a 240V AC charger, but it has the USA pin configuration. You can use an adaptor, or carefully heat and bend the pins to suit the AUS setup (like I did). You could also grab another charger from DickSmith or Jaycar - its just a 5V USB charger which is very common. You can also charge the unit with a USB cable connected to your PC.

Cheers,

Pez

jeez royce the neighbours already think I am weird :D

Got it all working, there was a fault in the program that I have now fixed. The guys on the MioPocket forum were very helpful. No other program was using it, but what happens is mio maps uses the GPS in a different form to NMEA and MioPocket is supposed to revert the GPS output back to NMEA but there was a typo in the script

Thanks anyway

Hey just_cruizin, Hows things mate?

Freight through Deal Extreme is FREE!!! That makes the current purchase price about $132AUD including shipping. Bargain!

Zook_Fan - Good stuff! I'm glad its all working for you now! I suspected a bug there somewhere. It never takes them long to sort these problems out!

royce - Yep those 7 inch ones are not that good - Poor resolution for the screen size and most of them run a less-flexible version of WinCE too...

Does that include international, I would have thought they would charge something. That's awsome then. I'll have to juggle some cash around, what sort of delivery time is involved.

FREE shipping worldwide. It sounds too good to be true I know, but it's true!

$132AUD drive away, no more to pay. 8)

I had mine 10 days after placing my order. All my mates ones turned up in roughly the same time frame. We are all in Vic.

It's all very impressive stuff!

It's built into the price. After exchange rate it ended up being just under $135 in total.

Hey Pezokki - mine turned up today! I'm yet to run any of the updates, I'll do all that tonight. Very impressed so far. One quick question for now - I've dumped Ozi on there, but how do I get it to run?

ordered mine today, what's the thoughts on their external antenna and additional mounts. I tried to order a couple of eash for my various vehicles but they didn't go through on the order, sent them an email about it so we'll see what happens

Do I need to put the OziCE folder in a SDMMC folder? Or does the OziCE folder go directly on the root of the SD card?

Hey guys!

ryangus - Good Stuff! To get Ozi to run on your unit as it is now, simply dump it onto your SD card (IN A FOLDER CALLED "OziCE"), and then go into Settings>'Choose Nav Path'. From here, navigate to where the OziExplorerce.exe file is located (it is probably at SDMMC/OziCE/Oziexplorerce.exe) or something similar.

The GPS unit will see the SD card as a directory called "SDMMC".

Then all you do is click "Navigation" in the menu and you should be running.

just_cruizin - 1c! Ask for a refund! lol. The DX website has been having a few problems of late - it was hit by a 'hacker' of sorts. All orders are safe and secure, but the page can be very slow. They are working on a fix now.

The unit has NO external antenna socket - it has a great receiver, no external antenna required. I have not seen the extra mounts that are available - but the standard included ones seem to work fine for me!

Cheers,

Pez

NO. The GPS unit will see the SD card as the SDMMC directory.

Correct!

I hope that clarifies things for you.

Thanks mate - my version of OziCE doesn't seem to work, and also I can't seem to install your snazzy menu. I see no files under ResdientFlash2! I'll kepp tinkering.

Also, my version of Tomtom 6 doesn't seem to work. It loads up fine, and let's me choose what country, but as soon as I tap the screen to navigate somewhere, it crashes...

What version Tomtom are you using, and what ROM version and Software Version is your device running?
