I've done a fair bit of reading thru the forum with regards to tyre sizes for Jimny's, and can deduce the general consensus is 215 75 15 really needs a 40mm+ lift to be a success.

Now i really dont think a lift would benefit me much with the type of driving i have so far done and what i plan to do (beach, light state forest tracks, muddy/wet paddocks etc), but i do believe better than the standard H/T tyres would be beneficial. A lift may be the way to go down the track (excuse the pun) but at the moment i cannot justify the $1000+

I have found decent prices on 205 75 15 Toyo Open Country A/T and Kelly Safari Trex and even Maxxis Bravo MT753's (Had these years ago on the back of a rwd Mazda Bravo ute and they gripped pretty darn good on state forest tracks)

Would i encounter any probs fitting this size to a stock Jimny, and would i see any benefit over a set of A/T's in standard 205 70 15's?

This upsize calculater puts the 205 75 15's smack bang in the middle of the other 2, so if the 215's slightly catch without a lift, i'm assuming the 205 75 15's would be fine...




Opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

205's are what comes on the vehicle stock... 215's will be fine with no lift

Sorry it's not a stock jimny but this will give a idea what your jimny will look like with 205/75/15 Maxxis M/Ts.
And no the tyres did't rub before I fitted the spring spacers

Nope, I think ypu might go up maybe 1/2 and inch at most...

Just fitted 215-75-7 Km2s to an o6 jimny and they are scrubbing so next is a 2inch lift, dont want to damage the guards to stop the scrubbing. So looks like some do and some dont.

Went in to a couple of local tyre places today to get some quotes on 205/75/15. Looking about $195 per tyre for Maxxis Bravo MT753, and $200 per tyre for Toyo Open Country AT's, fitted and balanced

But interestingly one retailer has informed me that next Thursday he has a guy coming in with BFG AT's 215/75/15 that he is trading on a set of new H/T's as, and i quote, "dont go off-road and cannot stand the humming". Now, i have been offered these for $75 per tyre fitted and balanced. They are apparently less than 9 months old and only about 10% worn.

So, can anyone that is running specifically BFG A/T 215/75/15 WITHOUT a lift tell me if they have had scrubbing either on road or mild off road.

i just put 215/75's on my jimmy and they hit. get tin snips and cut away till it doesn't hit. sorted took me 2 mins

I've got km2 215 75 stock lift and mine scrub a tiny bit at full flex on the front guards when off roading. But that's partly caused from sagged springs. The AT's would be smaller than my mt's. I wanted to go all terrains but couldn't find some cheap enough. I would grab them if I was you. If you don't buy them could you pm me the details and I will go up and grab them for that price.

Well from doing more reading on here and BigJimny and general info on the net it looks like the 215/75/15's will just fit on a pre 2006, but scrub on after 2006 due to the after 2006 front bumpers being bigger. I dont fancy chopping my front bumper up, so think i will stick with 205/75/15's and pass on the 215's

my 06 Jimny is standard as far as i can tell, with 205 70 15's and they scrub on the front lower lip of the bumper quite loudly... the rims are stock as well.. has anyone ever had this happen? looking at the car side on, both front wheels sit slightly forward in the wheel arch. it hasnt been in an accident but i wonder if something has been adjusted or changed for this to happen...

Grab hold of the bottom of the bumper and pull up and out on it. The mounts are weak and bend very easily. This is pretty common and only a slight nudge would cause it

i have 215/75/15's on my stock 2012 and it only just scraps when in reverse at full steering lock when it gets some suspension movement. normally and even offroad it hasnt rubbed at all even when it flexes.

I had the same issue, this was caused from going across muddy ruts and the bumper becoming a plough.
My jimny is a 2011 and had no lift and 215 MT's and never had any rubbing. From the wheeling you have shown us in pics already Jones i highly doubt you will ever have any troubles.

Had 215s on my 2011 jimny with no lift and no scrubbing. Road noise wasnt an issue either

My friend and I both have Jimnys, his is a 2008 and mine is a 2013 (facelift one)

I put on his wheels and tyres on my car and they didn't fit, they scrubbed on the front guards. He was running a 15x7 sunraysia style rim with Maxxis MT-753 wheels (215/75R15)

I did a bit of research, bought the exact same tyres, but put them on a 15x6 sunraysia rim and had no issues with scrubbing what so ever.

If you stick to stock rims or at max 15x6 rims, you shouldn't have any issues.

I recall some issues being reported with that size on 7" rims. I can say that 6" rims will be fine.

Stock rims would be better IMO. No need for a 15x7" except if you are chasing lots of offset not available with other rims.
