As Dan said they are an option for a buggy which isnt subject to the same constraints and restrictions as an on-road vehicle. For a road driven vehicle it would be both difficult and costly to fit and produce a driveable car, which defeats the purpose of the cheap conversion. The front diffs needs to be around 10-12 inches forward to start balancing out the extra wieght.

This^ =Truth.
Commodore motors are great in a buggy.
Just because a motor is cheap doesn't make it a good swap.

What else would you grab out of a 2000 GV to make it run, is it worth trying to get the rad etc. negotiated the box trans loom n ecu.. are there any funny bits on the firewall required to run the eng. As its a little further than I thought looks like its a weekend staying with the cousins and will prob sting me 150 fuel plus a low eng price (like a commy n trans ballpark). Its a bit remote, prob why it hasnt been snatched up.... no-one else wants to drive 5 hours each way and pull it out - glutton for punishment, ha ha

Na - not towing a trailer 900k round trip on a weekend with a 90k limit and uptight cops.... Ideally I would - if it wasnt lwb I'd be into the fuel tank etc as well. I can move spanners surprisingly quickly for a short and round dude... and have stripped a few cars so pulling it all out over 4 or 5 hours isnt too much stress. Mainly after whats req to run these things so I know what im after. The only reason the wifes OK with it is I've kept the price down thus far....
