Keep in mind that they are a very hard plastic, which makes them very brittle. So they break quite easily. I speak from personal experience.

You don't need to buy any. Just find someone with a set and follow them around for the day in the bush. you'll pick up the whole set off the ground by the end of the day

I have heard that Jeep Wragler flares (front only) can fit as well. With some adjustments. Also I have seen some plastic ones that are very flexable. Not wating any cash on things I will leave in the bush.

Its rear Wrangler flares on all four corners, but do you really want to put them on a Sierra.

IMO they look wrong, mostly around the firewall.

I can't believe how difficult it is to get suitable flares for a Sierra. They all either look terrible, make the wheelarch smaller, (or no bigger - so that's as good as smaller) aren't wide enough, break, tear, or cost a million dollars and still so all of those things.

I've had:
Old school Calmini (broken and BDOR TJ Rear (looked terrible then fell apart)

The old Boss versions of the Calmini flares are incredibly durable, but won't cover an 8" rim or an offset rim.
The BDOR calmini flares split.
Bushwackers fall apart.

I can't stand the look of TJ flares. (even though I ran them.) If you want your car to look like a jeep, buy a jeep. Ditto defender flares, but at least defenders are cooler than jeeps.

I'm using garden edging because it's 150mm wide (and i need exactly 150mm of width), cheap and crazy durable, but it's very difficult to mount firmly enough to take knocks without causing panel damage.

In the US it's possible to buy "flexy flare" type rubber that's 4.5" wide. It's what BCzuk uses.

I dont want my car to look like a Jeep! What I am trying to avoid is my car looking like an ugly pig like the car above. It all looks good exept for those garden edge looking flares. Allthough I am sure it never goes off road, or on road to be honest. Thats my bit. I only wanted to talk to normal Suzi fans not angry ones with an attitude.

If you don't want to make your car look like a Jeep, you won't be wanting Bushwacker flares though, because "Sierra" bushwacker flares are in fact, Jeep CJ rear flares. Bushwaker don't make flares for a sierra.





I guess aesthetics are entirely subjective, but I reckon they look terrible. However, flares have a functional purpose too, and if they break when they're rubbed on a bank then they're not functional in my opinion. I'm generally happy (actually I'm not happy at all, I'm angry and full of attitude ) to put function ahead of aesthetics. If those jeep flares were unbreakable I'd consider running them, but they're not up to the job.

For sure Dan - that's exactly what they are - 4.5" wide instead of 2" wide. We only get the 2" wide here. I just think freight is the killer. They're $175 for 25'.

I have looked in to this. When I decide to guard chop I will be buying something like this. On summit racing you can get a 50ft roll of 4.25" wide flares like this for US$430 shipped, its about $180 for shipping. Thats about 16 metres or enough to do about 3 cars. Split that in 3 and its about $140 per car which isnt bad value given that bushwackers, DBOR flares etc are around the $400 mark for a set.

Fair call - that's very reasonable, and very well suited to cut guards because that material mounts on the vertical face of the guard.

Maybe the flares you are running now would be a better option for the OP though? They're very attractive. (IMHO)

I usually find summit racing has cheaper shipping than alot of other places. For small stuff the i-parcel option, whilst not quick, is very cheap. Amazon is also very cheap for shipping too on the items that will ship to aus.

The flares I have are these http://www.mymudbusters.com They werent cheap and I was under they impression they were a bit more flexible when I bought them. In saying that they do look good, attract no attention from the cops, require no holes in the car as they mount directly to the widetrack flare brackets and are the only aftermarket flare that i know of that does this. They also sit flush with the guard line and dont hang down like the factory flares. My only issue is they are probably stronger than the guard they are mounted to so I guess time will tell, the material seems similar to what they make safari snorkels from. They are held on by plastic rivet things so if you dragged the car hard enough along a bank they'd probably pop off. But you can but 100 plastic rivets off ebay for $9 as spares.

If you were dead set on running brush bars I'd run them as close to the body as possible. Adding more weight outside the wheel will just make it more tippy.

Gwagensteve I wasnt saying your flares bring your car down I was saying they are ugly. I can understand their function on your car. But they dont fullfill the needs I have with my car. I have owned my sj80 since new & it is my everyday drive. I have done alot of offroad adventures from Landcrusier park to Esk tracks. I have been travelling around QLD for the past 3 years & my little car has been unstoppable. Even towed my camper trailer for this time. My first 4x4 was a 1lt Sierra Ute that I gave hell. Rolled it, thrashed it everyweekend & it made me fall in love with the Suzuki brand. So your chant about Owning a Jeep hit a sore spot with me. I dont want to own anything else. But I am sorry for what I said if it offened you.

Bunnings. Its called garden edging.

Everything else will cost you money.

EDIT: Not trying to be a smart ass. Any aftermarket flare worth buying tends to be anything but cheap.

It doesn't mount vertically though, it mounts horizontally.

The cheapest option that mounts vertically would be that 4.5" flex flare from summit, but it's not all that cheap.

I actually think the 150mm bunnings stuff I have is quite flexy. It's also pretty indestructible, but it does kind of hold a fold if it's really jammed up. I've had no problem with it splitting or pulling through the bolts.

I think I had 50mm or something, which didnt flex at all. 150 would be more flexy im sure.
