Previous owner had an sweet ECB bullbar fitted. The guys at ECB apparently also put a new recovery point in.
Does that look right to you ????
Seeing the build thread of some GV's here, the metal bit is upside down and the original point was bent upwards... either due to shock (scary) or forcefully on purpose (scarier) Pros: recovery point is higher than what it would be otherwise (and this one has taken a bashing already) Cons: is the welded part going to stick if I pull hard ???

Looks like a blade ready to tear stuff as well ... Not sure I can do anything now. Short of drilling and bolting to the chassis. ECB fsck-up ?

I kinda think ive seen this before, it might be because anything you put through the stock loop will foul with the bar on?
I would also think that it has bent the stock loop, its design would work as a big lever
If it were me I would pull all that stuff off and jsut use the stock loop and keep an eye on it, they seem to be fairly strong. But then I dont like snatch recoveries and would take it very very easy with all precautions on it anyway so it wouldnt see any load

I need to go back to the GV builds of some members here to find it , but I clearly remember seeing a photo where that exact sane recovery point 'extension' is used, with the original recovery loop straight and the spiky bit of metal bolted right between the point of the chassis where it's angled (matches perfectly, it's designed for that) and the loop.

Looking at that picture, I would say the "upper brace" was incorrectly installed, but, it also makes me wonder - had it been correctly installed, ie "blade" upward, what are the odds of it slicing through the frame rail?

See ATari4x4's link: that's how it should be installed. So I'm pretty sure it's safe and the recovery point would be torn off before slicing into the chassis. As for mine I have a feeling it was bent into the position it is now when I was bogged in 2wd mode (bloody pump was plugged the wrong way ... another ECB farkup ?) and pulled it out with a hummer that had more grunt than brains. Actually ... That's the second major issue with that bar ... install - first one was the pump moved from the front bumper and with pipes inverted - second one is the mis-installation of the recovery point - I'll a 3rd one for free: the bar was not secured in place properly - bolts were not tight enough which meant the bar eventually moved when we pulled it a bit. Who the hell did that "work" ??

look in my build. Ive got an ECB bar on mine.
The sharp angle bit is on upside down. Its ment to sit against the chassis to stop the welded loop from bending.
Ill take a pic of mine when the wife gets home.

If you had a heavy 90deg upwards load then yes it might but the load is almost always straight ahead. Ive had some extreme loads applied to mine already and it has only just scratched the paint off. I ended up welding the top and bottom plates to the hoop as they kept moving and the wedge no longer sitting under the Chasis

I just checked mine, and yes the Angle bit is supposed to go under the chassis rail..
When snatching forward in this direction <------------ Naturally the strap under tention gets pulled ^ (up) so the angle bit helps prevent the bending of the hoop. You are normally being recovered by a higher vehicle... not a lower one.. (EG Your bogged to the axles.. unless your being recovered by a Slammed Honda Civic, Your recovery vehicle will normally be on higher ground then you)
They probably installed yours like that as if the hoop was already bent, bending it back may weaken it further ??

With that bracket on, no matter which way the load is applied, you will generate a moment (a bending moment). It's a pretty good idea, but poorly executed IMO.

What about flat plat on the bottom, solid spacer inside factory loop, and similar plate on top but with an anti can open plate on the back.
It would be bolt on, and the whole lot could have a hole for a shackle pin, or for a recovery hook depending on room.
Never seen a GV chassis, just thinking out loud.
